I have a Channel Master 4221hd antenna which has very good specs on the UHF frequencies and I have a Antenna Craft HBU-22 which has about 1/2 the reception of the 4221hd for UHF and would be doing all the reception for VHF. I was considering stacking them and pointing them in the same direction, to maximize my reception. The 4221hd has a riveted on Balun and the HBU-22 has a screw on balun. I was wondering if it would be better to use the two baluns and a two way splitter to join the signals via coax cable or would I do better to use some 300 ohm antenna wire to connect the HBU-22 directly to the the 4221hd's balun.

Welcome to the forum.

It would not be a good idea to connect the two antennas directly together either with a common splitter/combiner or with the 300 ohm twin lead because the same UHF signals from each antenna might interfere with each other.

The best way to combine them is with a UHF/VHF splitter/combiner that has low loss called a UVSJ so that the 4221 is for UHF and the HBU-22 is for VHF.

What does your tvfool.com signal report look like? Where will the antennas be located?

I am mounting the antennas on an mast above my roof. The only channels I am trying to recieve are very local, KATC 28 (3.1), KLFY 10 (10.1), KADN 16 (15.1), KLPB 23 (24.1) I have a Jointenna feeding in a 4228HD that will be picking up WVLA 34 (33.1) that is mounted above. The HBU-22 alone should be effective but I was trying to eliminate the occasional drop outs. I had my 4221HD pointed to 33.1 and the 4228HD pointed to my locals, but 33.1 was dropping out too often. Also 10.1 was having issues on the 4228hd since it does receive VHF just not well since it was not designed to receive VHF. So I purchased the HBU-22 for the locals since they are strong. I think if I have trouble with the HBU-22 for the UHF signals I will do as you suggested and use the UHF/VHF combiner. I just thought that people had luck joining two antennas pointed in the same direction and since I had the antenna anyway I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I will post the Tvfool two post later, Rules!
