View Full Version : 8" Speaker Rough-in recommendations for brackets/enclosures

I'm just getting ready to order 10 pairs of the 8" Monoprice ceiling speakers for whole house audio. They are going in new construction.

Is it necessary to use the Monoprice rough in brackets? If not, any recommendations for a suitable sub? Is it even necessary to use rough in brackets for in ceiling speakers?

Also, any suggestions on a source for in ceiling speaker enclosures?

I install in-ceilings all the time and have never used a bracket. just draw a good map of where your speaker wire terminates and let the drywallers go to town...remember to map out any problem areas like conduit or plumbing etc, so if you want to adjust the location after you've drywalled you don't run into a problem, or better yet snap a few pics or areas where you might have an issue...

The reason I used them was to give the drywallers a location for them to cut out amd mud/sand up to, as well as a loaction to run cable too:
