What do the different settings like Upconvert 1, Upconvert 2, Auto DVI/HDMI, and Fixed do?

I have a RNG200 connected to a AVR via HDMI, then the AVR to the TV via HDMI as well.

I noticed when set to Auto/DVI the picture takes a couple seconds to come in when changing channels.
