Hey everyone, that last post really helped me out for those who read this. I ordered :

PS3 Slim 120GB
Sony HDMI cable w/ the usb cable pack

I'm running a VIZIO VMM26F201 LCD monitor for those who don't know. I plan to hook my PS3 up to it, for a better gaming experiance.

Two more questions today!

I was told from a friend at work, that i could hook my cable (tv) up to my monitor? Im clue less here!

As we all know - the flat screens audio is awful! However, I do have a logitech 3 peice system (for the pc ofcourse). If i plug it directly into my computer it works fine. If i plug it into my monitor however, it doesn't work at all. I was woundering if some of the wizzes here at AVS could give me a hand once again and figure this one out!

I've gone into Sounds>Playback devices : and it says

Speakers(high definition audio device not plugged in )

Digital output device(HDMI) High Definition Audio Device working

Well if its a PC sound system if mot likely has 3 analog inputs on the back, which your PS3 does not have.

Need more info to know for sure if it will work for you.

I apologize, i'm studying for mid-terms my head is all over the place. I don't understand how i will be getting sound from my PS3 when i am using an HDMI cable on my computer monitor.

Facts - my monitor has optional audio on it. For example, lets say if my monitor is hooked up to my PC, and i do not have any speakers connected to my tower. The monitors audio would play. Now, if i am to plug in the audio wire ( the green plug not sure what it is called =/ sorry) into the back of my monitor i get no sound from either the speakers or the monitor's default speakers.

There are two advantages with HDMI when it comes to audio: it sends both audio and video together through one wire, and it handles uncompressed codecs without issue (the PS3 won't send uncompressed audio unless it is through HDMI).

From what you describe, you will only send PS3 video to the monitor via HDMI, not audio. If the monitor won't play sounds when HDMI is connected, you may have to use analog cables. The PS3 can send out analog audio a number of ways, even if the video is HDMI.

If you are using your PC's speaker setup, you may need to use standard 2.1 or 5.1 RCA connections coming from the PS3 (maybe even an optical connection), but I'm not sure what you have. It depends on how your PC speakers are made, and if they accept non-PC audio sources.

If you are using your monitor for audio and HDMI is connected, make sure your PS3 audio menu on the XMB is set to HDMI. If that doesn't work, connect audio wires, change the PS3 audio settings accordingly and try again.

Joeblow - thank you for clearing that up. Yes, as of right now the audio from my monitor is working. However, the quality isn't so gear. On the back of my monitor is the green jack where you can plug in speakers. What im trying to get to work is my alternative speakers, instead of the monitors.

Example :

As of right now i have my monitor hook up to my computer. There are three green jacks, two on my PC and one on my monitor. When my logitech speakers are hooked up to either of the two green jacks, they work fine. When i hook it up to my monitors, i get no sound at all. The reason i want to plug it into my monitor is so that i can get better audio when my PS3 is hooked up.

Hopefully that clears everything up a little better

Alright , finals are really hitting me hard and i see what the issue is now - obviously the PC sound can't be heard it i don't have the audio hooked up directly to the PC...

For those who do use a pc monitor for the PS3. How can i hook an audio system to my pc? can i?

edit: it says audio in (for that green slot)
