I'm looking to get some feedback on users/installers that have used Pakedge WAP's.

How is the range compared to others?
How is the range in larger homes - 10,000 sq ft and up? (big difference in construction methods on the larger homes)
How well do they work with Automation systems? (Crestron Preferred)

Can they really be installed (1) every 4,000 sq ft (if only using laptops?)

Well, yes and no...

I bought one of these a while back to test - long story but I used to do interoperability work with UNH for WiFi...
While I can't seem to find notes on this specific product, there are some things to consider...

The max power allowed in the ISM bands is 100mW including antenna gain - and most of the name brand APs are already between 50 and 70mW and include a 3dB half wave dipole. These "in ceiling" APs (in general) include a better gain panel antenna (7 or 8dB) and so you get very nice coverage "below" the AP... But they also tend to be considerably more expensive.

I've tended to run ethernet to various closets around larger homes and then populating where necessary for good coverage with lower cost "routers" that have an Access Point option. Dlink and some of the Linksys routers have this option which basically shuts off the firewall and puts the device into "enterprise AP mode" - you give them all the same essid and wep/wap key and then a user "roams" automatically from one to another depending on location.

The ones with mimo capability tend to have better coverage because they can virtually stear the beam toward the receiver.

If you are concerned with compatibility with Crestron take a look at the Crestron WAPS. The Crestron Wall Mount WAP (http://www.crestron.com/products/show_products.asp?type=residential&cat=1044&subcat=1340&id=1675) & the Crestron Celling Mount WAP (http://www.crestron.com/products/show_products.asp?type=residential&cat=1044&subcat=1340&id=1810)

I am curious who claimed that? I would give two different responses. Might a single access point in some circumstances cover 4000 SQ FT? Yes. Would I say that it will as a "standard". Never! Is this new construction? If so access points should be planned throughout so they can be added as necessary. Once you go beyond 3 you probably want to look at a system that uses an access point controller.
