Hello Gents,

I'm looking for suggestions, I ran a 25 foot hdmi cable in my basement ceiling just prior to contractor installing the sheetrock. The problem is that I neglected to cover the terminals and as a result the terminals were pretty badly covered actually encrusted with dust. Before I begin cutting into my brand new cieling to replace the cable, does anyone know of a cleaning method that has yielded good results. I'm such an idiot for not covering the terminals.

The outside of the cable you can just use a damp rag.

Now if we are talking inside the connector
dust = compressed air
mud = something wet and maybe a soft toothbrush

+1 on the compressed air can (not sure the low volume psi they put out though) or borrow an air comprssor and adjust the pressure as needed.
If it has to be replaced, you can tape the new cable to the old cable and pull it through providing you didn't use staples.

This is a perfect example of why it is a good idea to put in a big conduit if the walls and ceiling are open.

and make sure it has a large radius bend between the wall and ceiling....

I just used ABS sewer pipe, and the 90deg elbow may prove challenging to get another HDMI cable through......:(

or at least run a couple Cat 5's so if your hdmi is shot you can hook up a balun...

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

I know I should have run a conduit but the builder wouldn't do it for me or allow me to do it myself (It's a new house being constructed). They didn't even want to install the cables I brought but finally agreed to let me do it as long as it didn't interfere with any electrical or HVAC ducts since they were having the electrical inspection thefollowing day. I was in a rush to get it done it was late in the day and I wouldn't have much light to work with. As a result I forgot to cover the ends.

Thanks again guys.
