View Full Version : Recommended projector for 27' throw
bhavsforum 10-20-09, 07:34 PM Hi
Can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced projector and anamorphic lens for 27' throw for a 130" screen? Thank you in advance
Jason Turk 10-20-09, 08:05 PM Is that 130" wide, diagonal, 16:9, 2.35:1, etc...? Need more information.

16:9 and 2.35:1, 130" diag
This may help you, but it gives lots of results:

You could consider using a vertical compression anamorphic lens given your long throw, only one still made Panamorph UV200. Cheap used older models include the Panamorph P752 which I have and is reasonably good but inferior to the UV200 but has a much bigger aperture than the UV200 so can be used with almost any projector , in contrast to the UV200.

That doesn't quite make sense, but I am interpreting it as 130" diag. 2.35:1 native screen that you will be also watching 16:9 on. Is that the case?
If so, that works out to roughly 51"x120" 2.35:1, or 51"x90.75" 16:9. At 27', you'd need a 3.57x throw assuming you are using a HE anamorphic lens. Very few things will do that. In fact, you are pretty much limited to projectors with interchangeable lenses (ie. high end stuff).
I can fit a 120" diagonal or 104 inch wide 16x9 image at 24 feet throw with an RS1. I needed a high gain screen for the image to be bright enough for the life of the bulb. But I do benefit from an increased contrast ratio with this setup.

That works out to 2.77x, which is at the end of the throw though still within it. If the OP wanted 130" wide 16:9, then it would work (2.49x throw).

My lumens dropped to around 435 with a new bulb. My second bulb was much lower when new. Around 365! But with a 1.7 gain screen its plenty bright for me. I like the cinema look not the plasma look.
Jason Turk 10-21-09, 11:26 AM Sorry I am confused... I was talking strictly physical throw capability, not light output.

That's just me making a comment about my light output with a long throw setup because its is something to keep in mind. Sorry, I didn't want to confuse anyone.

bhavsforum 10-21-09, 02:21 PM Hi Jason
Thanks for the info. You are right, 130" diag in native 2.35:1 mode with automask down to 16:9. Any recommendation for projector at <10K? How about the anamorphic lens?
Jason Turk 10-21-09, 02:39 PM Under $10k with a 3.56x = Zippo. :) Seriously, none that I know of. How firm is that throw?
