hiho

i want to buy a new Media Player, because i am very angry about the support of my WD TV HD Player.

important things that be needed:

many many Moviefiles supportet
DVD Menu support
LAN support for streaming 720p or 1080p files without problems
good Picture Quality
dont need DTS downsampling, because i have a A/V Receiver.
Easy to install the Network
no noisy Fan

first i look on the WD TV Live, but i am not sure, if WD TV make a new Firmware with DVD Menu support. I am still waiting for my WD TV, but no hope.
I read, the WD TV Live have problems with LAN streaming.

than i look to the O!Play

most of the things i need is inside, but i read several times, that the O!play have bader Picture Quality as the WD TV? is that right?

next is the Icy Box 305
never hear about that comany, not sure if they support more Firmware
(same Chipset as the O!play = same picture Quality?)

is there any Mediaplayer arround 100 €, with same or better Picture Quality of the WD TV, low noise, and also all the important things i wrote down above, or is it better to wait a few month?

thx anyway

PS: i dont need internal SATA Plug etc.

only a Mediaplayer with good PQ and good support ;)

It sounds like you need to start doing some research for yourself among all these threads to find one that suits your needs. All of them have flaws, you will not find a "perfect" unit.

Good luck on your journey!

Hello RipperJack, i think whilst you say that you are very 'angry' with your original wd tv...i think you have already answered your own question.

There is never going to be the 'perfect' box because you can never please everyone... you have done your reseach and you have discovered that the wdtv has the best picture quality at the price range.

So the wd tv live will do all you want apart from DVD Menu....now you have to ask yourself how important that feature is to you ??

I myself do not care about DVD / BluRay Menu at all in fact i prefer to go straight to the movie.

Happy hunting but i think you will end up with wd tv live ....

i think xtreamer is for you. $99 is within your suggested price range, plays a wide range of files and dvd menus. You can disable the fan, and it comes with a free usb wireless dongle if you purchase now.

Website says free dongle until 7/1/09 ?
hmm....close to US$200.00 including shipping. Might want to compare it to the WDTVLive a bit closer.

heh, of course you can choose not to use internal hdd option, which would reduce internal temp.

Seagate Theater hd,

thumbs down.

Seagate have no HDMI. A very import feature for HD Movies and a Panasonic Plasma ;)
