I was brought up listening to my fathers Koss headphones and I thought they sounded good. I am working a different schedule now and I will mostly be able to listen to music LATE at night now. It seems that Koss are not really accepted around here. I am looking for a budget friendly pair of headphones for music playback. Any suggestions and why isnt Koss talked about much here? Are the Bose of headphones? Thank you in advance.

check out head-fi.org for headphones

but the general consensus on bose is that they're way overpriced and you can do a lot better for your money

AKG Headphones. Buy it once and you'll never have to upgrade.

check out AKG and Sennheiser, both excellent brands with models at every price level.

Most Koss headphones I am familiar with (and I grew up with them as well) were "over the ear" closed back units. They tended to isolate you from other room sounds. AKG and Sennheiser have those as well, but they also have "open back" headphones which allow a portion of the surrounding room audio in the background. I like it, the sound is more like listening to speakers where you are not completely cut off from the room. BUT, at work where I do not want to bother co-workers, I use Sennheiser HD 280 closed back headphones. At home, HD 580's are my favorite "cans". Watch for sales, I got both my headphone sets at considerable discount using google shopping to find really nice sale prices. I came "real close" to buying a set of AKG K701 headphones when they were on sale at Amazon, but I really did not "need" two sets of high end phones...so I reluctantly passed.
