Hi all,

I have had a good look around but can't find the answers I need. Plus, I have a two week old baby that is letting me know when I can play with the WD TV live. She's not giving me much time.....

1. Thumbnails won't appear over my network. I'm connecting wired through a router directly to a nas drive. I can see all videos, pic and music no prob. I put a film and the thumbnail on a usb key and plugged it in to the WD and hey presto, my thumbnail was there.. How can I get them through the network?

2. Some of the AVI/DIVX (downloads.. sorry) movies I have don't play audio over the network and some do. The only difference I can see between them is when you go into the properties in windows, the ones that work have a summary tab with the codec info. The ones that don't work have just the property tab. Again I put one of the films on a usb key and it worked fine connected directly. The WD says "no audio channel" on the iffy files.

Hope someone can help although I will still keep on searching anyway (when allowed).

Thanks

Anto

Not sure if this has anything to do with the problem or not, but how are you ciewing you files? Over the Media Server, or the Network Shares?

If you used the server side, try the shares side instead. There you will probably see two thumbnails. One for the jpg and the other for your movie. I am not sure that is a bug, but it is a bit annoying. Hopefully they will fix that in the next firmware update.

As for the audio issue, again I am not sure. It might be that your NAS is not fast enough, or it might be that your network is bottlenecked somewhere. If the file plays on an attached drive/key, then the WD TV Live will play it, that is not an issue with the media player. I have never run into that problem. All my mkv's and avi's play fine over the network. I do have to use a 300Mb wireless connection so I get the transfer rates up. I have had little trouble with my wireless network since I reserved the units IP address on my router. I read that it also helps to tkae your network off of DHCP and use a static one, but I was unable to figure out how to set my laptop up to use a static IP address..

Hi Derelict_Drvr,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the the network shares and hey presto, you're spot on. Correct again about the doubling up of the thumbnails, it's a shame cos it's nearly there. Looks like is programming troubles. Beta testing for free sucks.....

I don't think the audio problem is a bottleneck. I just played a HD 1080p 25fps .mts file that I took with a camcorder and it played perfectly. 160MB file for 50 secs of video. Also, some of the AVIs work perfectly. I ran one of the iffy ones through Handbrake and it doubled the size of the file but the audio is back. Maybe with the correct settings Handbrake will do the job..

Many thanks for the reply..
