Dion250 10-21-09, 11:14 PM Hubs still broke.. Heads up for people.
CineFreak 10-22-09, 02:07 AM Fluff,,,,,
They'll never fix the real issues.
gonzalesdlx 10-22-09, 02:15 AM Hubs still don't work?
Makes me laugh...honestly.
A shame to call it 1.03!
Just wait for B-RAD's enhanced WDTV Firmware. He will fix it ;)

/cheers
microcens 10-22-09, 02:27 AM Sub/idx subtitles are still flashing?
Nice to see them improving but isn't this a copy/paste from previous betas?
And looks like that everyone doesn't care about WDTV anymore... for a lot of people this was the best of the best players in the market... but now I see that the same people rushed to buy the new version! Wasn't WDTV good enough?
Fluff,,,,,
They'll never fix the real issues.
"Real" is subjective, I'm sure the update fixes real issues for Greek and Korean users :)
One can only hope that they can port some of the features/fixes over from the Live version.
canaiver 10-22-09, 12:48 PM I just upgraded my WD TV to 1.03 firmware and tested Star Trek, still out of sync. I read some where that beta firmware 1.02.11 fixed the sync issue, can any one confirm that ? I just download it, but i can only test tonight. I hope it works, i only bought this WD TV to watch mkv 720p.
I would have expected that in 1.03 WD retrofitted some of the enhancements in the mini and LIVE, at least the ones the hardware supported. I will keep a positive mind and hope that they will eventually do that...well maybe in 1.1
Wasn't this already resolved in a previous build?
* Resolved gain being applied to audio output that resulted in signal clipping
Dear WD Guys
please fix play all in genre (music)
I can sort myself music in genres
but I still CANNOT play all music of same genre
dmeader 10-23-09, 09:03 AM I wish the WD reps would go off to the ACRyan and Brite-View threads to see how other companies handle firmware updates. REAL improvements for the devices and good two-way communications about what is planned... none of this "I cannot comment" nonsense.
morbidz 10-23-09, 10:16 AM is double thumbnail issue resolved?
Quaxtros 10-23-09, 01:38 PM I would like to update to the newest firmware. However if I'm not happy with it I would like to revert to my previous firmware. Is this possible?
How would I do this?
sinker442 10-23-09, 03:11 PM In the .ver file change the old firmware version to 1.03.02 (any higher number than 1.03.01 will do).
Then flash the old firmware. The WD will think it's new and will accept it (don't worry it will show the correct version of the firmware after you flash it, not the one you gave it)
No DVD ISO menu support ....
So many other brands now have this feature.
I have been patiently waiting ... hoping we would get this.
I love my WDTV and am using 1.02.07 (best for me)
Please GuyWD or someone, put us out of our miseries and tell us if we will ever get DVD ISO menu support?
If not, I can then go out and buy an Xtreamer or something and we all stop bitching.
morbidz 10-23-09, 06:26 PM i can't seem to be able to update from usb. player always tries to go online for the update.
any tips?

yes
Hubs still broke.. Heads up for people.
Just a heads up it will never be put back in.......This was a feature leak that people foud and never was meant to be something that the player officially supported. If you need a Hub support, either use the custom firmware or get a new player....I am not tyring to be mean, but this topic comes up every single time, and the same answer is given every single time.
Same thing goes for DVD ISO support, not gonna happen. IF you need it time to get a new player.
As far as being called "fluff" it may be fluff to you, but there are some people that will be happy with the fixes,
canaiver what Star Trek? Ive seen a vversion of the new Star Trek on my player and it did not have any sync issues.

The firmware is beta. It's still in the official stable release. And there is nothing wrong with the community trying to get a feature or reporting they don't work. Don't be negative. And I have a PlayOn!HD. Which guess what.. Has Hub support.

They have this feature in WDTV Mini if you really want it, and it 30 buck cheaper than WDTV. I got the mini for my girlf and love the size of it.:)
techflaws 10-24-09, 03:41 AM This was a feature leak that people foud and never was meant to be something that the player officially supported.
And why is that?
bandidoski 10-24-09, 09:03 AM It seems like WD can not do anything else for the WD TV HD... this upgrade doesn't have anything exceptional, if they can not do somethings like copy and paste files... turn the hard drive off... they should say it.
joshjoshlol 10-24-09, 09:25 AM they have said it. as have many people. the WDTV can spin down a drive but because of its physical design it cannot power down a USB bus completely, thus leaving on LEDs which consume minimum power. i feel like i should sig that, it's brought up so often...
borchgrevink 10-24-09, 01:46 PM What about the stuttering bug for mkv files introduced in 1.02.11? Is it still there?
What about the stuttering bug for mkv files introduced in 1.02.11? Is it still there?
This should be fixed in 1.03.01. If you still see this bug, please let us know.
joshjoshlol 10-24-09, 04:22 PM is the WDTV displaying appropriately tagged .ass/.ssa subtitles with vertical display commands? either i just had one doozy of a glitch in my WDTV's subtitle display, or there was vertical text cutting down the middle of the screen, exactly when it was called for by the script. i always assumed that .ass/.ssa tags were set to be ignored on display by the WDTV, not utilized.
hiendas 10-24-09, 06:21 PM 24-bit/88.2KHz music files (flac or wav) are reproduced with clicks & pops !!!
christoofar 10-24-09, 07:40 PM 24-bit/88.2KHz music files (flac or wav) are reproduced with clicks & pops !!!
Probably because WDTV never supported those bitrates, only 44/16 for audio & 48hz for video.

WTF? Why the hell does the mini have this feature and not the WDTV HD?
I was contemplating getting the WDTV Live but it doesn't seem to have this
feature either. I thought for sure the Live would have it... Dumbasses.

The WDTV Mini also have
1. Live animated preview (extremely cool cause I hate having to make my own thumnails)
2. Support External USB Hub
3. Support USB hd turn off when you turn off the mini
4. Support external DVD
5. you can also wacth RMVB stuffs
6. superfast fast forward up to 32x
I still haven't play with it a lot though since I still use my WDTV.:)
hiendas 10-25-09, 03:06 AM Probably because WDTV never supported those bitrates, only 44/16 for audio & 48hz for video.
WDTV truly supports (reading and playback) of 24-bit/96KHz, 24-bit/192KHz audio files. However the digital o/p is downsampled into 48KHz (24-bit ).
I was the first who reported the replay gain & clipping issues several months ago. I was correct. Also, the 24/88.2 KHz issue has been reported several times in the past.
I am expecting WD to fix the 24-bit/88.2KHz issue in the next firmware update.
Audible pops & clicks (probably caused by enormous amount of jitter) distort the sound and this phenomenon occures after about 2 minutes of playback time. Pausing and starting again seems to overcome the problem, but only temporally.

heh, well, yeah, though downsampling everything to 48khz isn't what I would consider "supporting" hi rez audio.
I don't think WD is going to spend much energy on anything other than incremental fixes on the WDTV from here on in.
fred_be9300 10-25-09, 07:21 PM it seems to me - based on the changelog, and the lack of twittering by Scott - that there isn't anything new or fixed in 1.03.01, over 1.02.11.
the 1.03.01 changelog seems like a recap of everything changed since the last non-beta release, 1.02.07. That makes me think they're prepping the 1.02.11 / aka 1.03.01 for official release.
Well, there might be a handful of under-the-radar fixes (MKV stuttering?) and new bugs added to 1.03.01 (like the 24-bit/88.2KHz issue reported by hiendas)
It's disappointing to see that WD took all our good feedback and put it in the next device, and none or very little, in the WDTV.
PS: on re-reading the thread, it's actually not clear to me whether the 24-bit/88.2KHz issue reported by hiendas is new in 1.03.01, or a repetition of an earlier report.
lgdavis 10-25-09, 10:33 PM I'm playing back mpeg files, .mpg and .ts, recorded from off-air 1080i HD.
HD video, and Dolby 5.1 playback is fine from the WDTV, but:
FF and RW are essentially useless. The playback bar doesn't follow during FF/RW, and it will jump unpredictably forward or back when resuming play.
It's impossible to ever predict where it will resume playback.
I've tried fw 1.06 and 1.07, am currently using 1.03.01 - they all have this problem.
I very respectfully request that you please address this issue for the next firmware issue.
Thanks for all.....
Hey thanks a lot guys for fixing and adding some nice features! :) First i was scarred to install this fw... but damn... it fixed some problems like this strange high 5.1 profile thing.. i now can play (as far I have such files here from anime fansubbing groups with this settings) this files oO with a 5.1 profile and up to 16 reframes... funny before it got problems with the video and sound or the video was behind the sound and so on... anyway i just want to say one thing!
THANK YOU GUYWD AND THE WHOLE WD TEAM for this !! :) Great work! Keep it up!

This might be the wrong forum to ask this...but is there any way someone can come up with a custom firmware that can get the the WDTV to do DVD ISO's with menu support?

yes, it is the wrong thread for this question, but anyway, the answer is NO, that's not possible.
see http://wdtv.wetpaint.com/page/Unofficial+firmware
"Not all of the official firmware is open source though. Especially the modules related to the Sigma Designs SMP8634/5 chipset, with the audio/video signal processing, is closed source and only distributed as a compiled binary. As such, it's currently not expected that audio/video features (e.g. codec support) can be modified. But anything related to the Linux OS itself, may be modifiable."
mytbyte 10-27-09, 02:23 AM fred, how is DVD menu support a part of sigma programming??? just wondering? :D
techflaws 10-27-09, 02:39 AM Right. Also b-rad was saying in the WD TV Live thread that he is considering implementing it if enough people donate. God, I'm hope he's not kidding.
marzoqi 10-27-09, 07:26 AM does wdtvlive support extra hubs
Right. Also b-rad was saying in the WD TV Live thread that he is considering implementing it if enough people donate. God, I'm hope he's not kidding.
Just another thing that WD is waiting for others to do for them... for free! But it would be a nice feature for sure!
I find it curious that ScottWD said he is looking foward for the hack firmwares... but never said anything about the WDTV warranty!
By the way... 1080p 24Hz seems to be working again! Thats nice!

The 24-bit/88.2KHz issue is quite old. Has been reported several times in the past.
New bug introduced in this version: When pressing PLAY the previous behavior was to sequentially play all videos. Now after finishing one starts again the same. I doesn't go to the next.
Also I noticed that in case of idx/sub subtitles the last one do not show.
borchgrevink 10-29-09, 06:14 PM A bug I am not sure is software version (have experienced on both 1.02.10 and 1.03.01) is that on some mkv files the film sometimes speeds up to let's say 1,5x speed and sound disappears. Then I have to stop film and start again. Problem can then end, or return at odd times throughout the film. Any others who have experienced this?

I havent seen this in any of the files I have played, I would suspect its either the files(s) you are playing or the HD you have.....
This version still has mkv sync issues :(

yea ive had that happen and not only on 1.02.10, but you can rewind/play instead of restart btw.
borchgrevink 10-30-09, 02:54 AM OK. Have you found out whether it is the files or the player or HD?
marzoqi 10-30-09, 05:01 AM first does the WDTVlive support more hubs ?
second for the older WDTV : we were asking for arabic subtitles from long time now and the votes for it has reached over 2000 and it has high demand , when are u gonna support arabic subtitle files (.srt) ? what's the problem ? u should've supported arabic before long time since WDHDTV is spreaded in the Arab countries ,we aren't asking for Arabic gui or interface just the subtitles to be Arabic (.srt) , this is all we need for the old WDHDTV , no need for more for us ------> sent 2 GuyWD and ScottWD
third : video playlist sucks , I mean it works but nothing is good about it

Its becoming normal now... they fix one or two thing, and broke three or four... but don't forget that this is only a beta!
This version still has mkv sync issues :(
Really?! I have to check... this is the 3rd time WD said this bug was fixed!

Have checked and the error does not reappear when I rewind and get to the same point in the film as last time the error happened. Whatever that helps...

Installed FW 1.03.01 (moded by Lilababe).
When playing movie it plays slowly from while to while - it plays like in slow motion.

Perhaps this is the problem? "Installed FW 1.03.01 (moded by Lilababe)."
Maybe you should be contacting "Lilababe", since this is the person that modified the official firmware.
2004RuN 11-05-09, 08:47 AM It's all the same with the official FW from WD :S
So it's not the problem by lilababe.

There is something wrong with your file or fimrware I can tell you that for a "fact" ;). BTW if its been "moded" then its not the same and something has change. If it was the same there would be no need to mod it. Try installing the official firmware or a previous version and see if you have any issues. I am still on 1.02.07 (I think) and ahvent had any issues.
hegemon13 11-11-09, 01:02 PM A bug I am not sure is software version (have experienced on both 1.02.10 and 1.03.01) is that on some mkv files the film sometimes speeds up to let's say 1,5x speed and sound disappears. Then I have to stop film and start again. Problem can then end, or return at odd times throughout the film. Any others who have experienced this?
I have had this exact same problem on three different files. It will play okay for a while, and then it starts going faster with no audio. Rewinding a few frames and resuming playback works, but once it starts doing it, it keeps coming back. It is usually on larger files, but ones that seem well within the acceptable range for the device. I have not tried 1.03.01. I had hoped the mkv playback fixes it mentioned would fix this, but I guess not if you're still seeing the problem :(.
The problem occurred with an external drive on the original firmware, as well as over the network with the modded firmware, but always on the same files. Most MKVs play back perfectly. It's quite frustrating.
Thanks for posting this. I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem, and I thought I was going nuts. Have you tried posting this question at either wdtvforum or wdtvforums? The more focused user bases there might have further insight. If not, I'll post the problem there and see if anyone has suggestions.

I have tried contacting WD support, but nothing. Will try the other forums.
hegemon13 11-13-09, 01:27 PM I just found the cause and solution, at least so far. It turned out to be an access speed issue. I had ruled that out because it happened with my external as well as on the network. But, I have an old external drive, and I realized that whenever this playback error occurred, the activity light on the drive was going crazy.
So, I decided to set up an NFS share, as it is supposed to be much faster on the WDTV than SMB/CIFS. I had one file that would always display this playback behavior within a minute or so. Playing it over the NFS connection, it played perfectly all the way through. Just to confirm the cause, I tried playing the same file from the SMB share, and the fast video/no sound problem showed up within about 30 seconds.
So, the behavior seems to indicate that the WDTV cannot access the file fast enough for the playback bitrate. Why it won't snap out of that state without a rew/ff/stop, I don't know, but the cause seems pretty concrete from my testing. The solution? Find a way (such as NFS) to stream the file more quickly to the WDTV.

Very interesting. But how does this relate to my setup? I use a brand new WD Passport 400gb. Thanks for the info

Well, darn. It has still worked well for me so far, but I can't imagine the problem should occur in your setup. Even a 5400 RPM drive should be way faster than the NFS share. Sorry, I have no other ideas, except to try setting it up a share the same way I did and see if it works.

I've been under the impression that the WDTV does not supply sufficient power to the USB port to drive a Passport drive properly. Have you tried the standard Y-cable solutions to provide extra power? Do your movies run when loaded onto a thumbdrive?
dmeader 11-18-09, 03:25 PM I've been under the impression that the WDTV does not supply sufficient power to the USB port to drive a Passport drive properly.
Mine did. I didn't have an external HD to test my WDTV when I got it, so I went to Walmart and got the biggest 2.5" external they had, which happened to be a 320Gb WD Passport. Worked fine from both the side and rear port, with the single-head cable that came with the drive.
I'm having MKV sync issues with my WD TV HD too. I'm using the latest version of Handbrake to encode my DVD collection and some of them will have this issues when the audio is completely our of sync. If I play them on VLC they run great though.
