View Full Version : LCD mount for inside armoire?

We have a nice new (expensive) armoire for our bedroom and have been looking for a new HDTV to go along with it. The space inside the armoire is limited by adjustable shelves with holes drilled at various heights. It also has 4 small metal peg + shelf pieces that plug into those holes to vary the shelf height -- the usual, nothing special.

Of course I want to buy a TV which is about 1 inch taller (when the stand is attached - but not without the stand!) than the max height provided by the armoire assuming I want to keep a single shelf installed so I can install dvd/br player and cable box above or below the TV.

So now I'm thinking about the possibility of installing a mount of some kind inside the armoire. The rear panel of the armoire is super thin so attaching it there is just not a possibility. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any mounts that might be designed for exactly this purpose -- inside an armoire?

Otherwise I'm wondering if there is not some kind of metal harness I could employ that would basically extend the "peg to shelf" height by an inch. This would allow me to put the shelf on the bottom-most level, and the shelf would drop another inch down, allowing the TV to fit.

The last (worst) option would be for me to drill additional holes either above the top holes or below the bottom holes. I'm confident I could do that without poking through the side walls, but it would be a pretty rough-looking set of holes compared to the others and I'm sure my wife would be a little bit unhappy with it.

Thanks for any advice! I know I'm not the only one who has dealt with this issue.

Can you run a 2x4 or two across the back of the armoire and then secure a mount to that? You could stain the mount to match the furniture.

If the back isn't an option, you could beef up the top of the piece and get a ceiling mount.

I guess it all depends on how close the piece is going to the wall and what you are willing to do to make it all work. Second thought would be to buy a smaller TV, but no one wants to hear that.
