So this is my simple theatre that I have upstairs. It is a bedroom that I am converting into a movie room. I purchased four 6" can lights and plan on installing them over the weekend. I was curious what were your suggestions on seating. It seems as though the room is fairly tight and the trusses that were used for the attic is a cold roof. I have about 6-8' behind the couch if I was to rip that wall down, but the roof angles back so I wouldn't be able to get the best use of the space. But it may work great for a riser for the couch and allow me some more seating.

When I go to sell the house I could always remodel that area again, move the current closet to where the existing wall is behind the couch and the closet would be sloped... I hope that makes since. My concern is the bracing for the roof. There are 2x4's currently for that wall and some 2x6's that angle up towards the roof for support. I dont even know if I can move that wall. So I am going to try and use the space as best as I can.

Thanks!

As you can tell it is kind of hard to install a soffet around the room because of the weird indents from the closet, the other one is for a recessed built in book case that is out in the hallway.

Photos, or a layout drawing...?

This is kind of an older picture, but this is with the drapes open showing kind of what I have going on.

I think you could achieve allot with this room with low budget. Seating I would consider Berkline recliners or loveseat style seating. Also for less that 40-60 bucks I would paint that room a darker color, with screen wall flat black. Like the color carpet though.

I agree; consider painting the ceiling black (possibly the front wall), and a darker color of your choosing for the walls

Ok, will do. I just got done installing the can lights. I made one mistake because the stud was closer than I thought and I had to remove the center light in the ceiling that was existing. So I will have a little bit of light sheet rock patching to do in the ceiling and then I should be good to go.

I am going to go out today and get some lamps and baffles.. They dont have any black rings for the 6" cans. I was thinking of just getting the white trim with the black baffle.

What size lamps are people getting? 65w Par-30?

I also have to figure out what happened to my fancy switch. I plugged two of the cans into the switch but I cant get any power on the switch anymore. I had the same problem initially and just kept switching breakers on/off and eventually got it to work. I am wondering if it may be a bad switch.

I hate going back up in the attic if I don't have to. I hate that blown-in insulation.

Ok, just incase anyone else has the Mistro switch... The green light on the switch wont come on until you actually put a lamp in your fixture. Weird, but thats what was causing my light on the actual switch not to light up.

I will try and post some pictures here in a bit.

Sorry I dont have a better camera.

Here are some pictures with the new cans in place. I will get some shortly with the bezels.

Really makes the room seem bigger.

Sorry for the lame lighting... My camera ran out of battery before I could get any better shots... I really need a wide angle lense or fish eye lense. After reading my initial post I was way off... The room is only 13' 9" long, not 16' like I posted.

Ok, got the cans installed, painted the screen wall, rehung the screen and I am patching a few holes in the ceiling. Sorry that some are a little dusty, but that dust from sanding is a pain.

Any suggestions if I should paint the ceiling as well?

Yes, painting the ceiling will help your picture. Go flat black if you can. A darker color than white on the other walls will also help, it does not necessarily have to be black.

The front wall is looking really good!

Thanks. I could notice a night/day difference with the picture with the black projection wall. Trying to take pictures before was impossible to actually get the picture captured.

Once I finish sanding the mud on the ceiling and texturing I will paint the ceiling black. I was thinking of mustard walls much like LandSharks movie room.
