I'm on a quest to make real theater popcorn(tm) for my home theater guests; I've got the Whirley-pop, but I'm search of Flavacol. I've found it online, but I've got two choices, and they both suck:
Buy a single 35oz container of Flavacol for around $2.50, and then pay $11 for shipping, or...
Buy a 12 pack of 35oz containers of Flavacol from Amazon shipped free for $25 - joy, enough Flavacol to use until the year 3000.
Anybody know of a local place that sells single units of this stuff in Houston, TX? Bonus if they have coconut oil as well.

Flavacol is powdered salt colored yellow.
Use powdered salt (usually labeled popcorn salt) and canola or coconut oil flavoured with beta-carotene. Then top with butter oil (clarified butter-google a how-to, very easy). Your guests will thank you, I promise.

Flavacol is a name brand for popcorn salt. You can choose others, such as ACT II, or white powdered popcorn salt and other such.
The main difference is the flavacol and other "popcorn" salts are not granules, like normal table salt, they are "fine powdered salt" that adheres to popcorn. Normal granulated table salt would just fall off the popcorn kernels......
Hope this helps....

AHA - thank you very very much. Very helpful post. I had seen their website before, but didn't realize they had a local Houston presence.
I've used regular popcorn salt before, but Flavacol also gives the popcorn that movie theater color as well...nothing else is quite the same.
