I have a Panasonic PX42u 42" 720p set as my living room tv in my apartment.

(I also have a sharp LCD in the bedroom)

I want to get a larger 1080p tv. I feel that going from 42" to 50" is sort of a waste of money. I really want to make the jump to 60"+

As everyone knows...plasmas get pretty expensive after 50". My friend has a 50" samsung DLP set, that he bought in 2007. I went over there for a football game (this is a few years back) and was really impressed by the viewing angles (for a projection) and the picture quality.

I am looking at the Mitsubishi 60" model #WD60C9.

Its just over a grand. Thats alot for the money.

However, anyone think its a bad idea?? How long do you get out of your first bulb? Does picture quality tend to degrade over time? How long do these tv's last before they have issues? (excluding the bulb life)

I am a DLP newb.

You should start reading in the Mitsubishi thread here

I have a WD-65837 and it is great, I set about 7 feet away and the quality is amazing. The only degrading is the slow decline of the bulb and when it fails or you want to revive it then a new bulb is $99 from Mitsubishi.
