I'm just tring to get a idea of where to place my dehumidifier. At first I was gonna build it into the wall of the closet where my sump pump is kept. But i'm thinking it'll be a bad idea. I think it'll just keep pulling the same water out of the pump. So my question is where sould I put it. I'm trying to put a pic of the room so you guys can help. I'd like to put it in the laundry room but i'm afraid it'll not get the water out of the air where I need it. ...help!

in the pic are the two areas I was thinking of putting it. the door way between the main area of the laundry room will not be getting a door. It'll be a open walk way. about 6 feet wide. My second thought is to put it in the wall marked number 3 in the new pic.

or am I making too big a deal out of this? thanks.

since no one has jumped in here, I will. First, not sure what you mean by "in the wall"? I assume you mean you have a traditional freestanding basement ~60pt dehum. As long as it's placed near a drain location (assuming you don't want to have to keep emptying the dumb container) and as long as it sits in open space to the building envelope, it should do a decent job.

Moisture will "chase" dry air, so as long as there is adequate circulation throughout the basement/home, the dehum will function as intended.

My main concern was rather or not having it close to the sump pump would be a problem. Unless I'm told otherwise I'll be putting it on the other side of the room. By in the wall, I mean I"ve not build the wall yet "this weekend" and I'm gonna make a spot in the wall for it to go in, this way I don't have another thing taking up space. It'll be close to a drain....

I'm still confused about in the wall. Do you mean you're actually going to recess the unit into the stud cavity? If so, that's probably a very bad idea because you'll want really nice circulation around the entire unit for it to effectively dehum the airspace.

If you're that worried about placement, then maybe you should consider a unit like Thermastor's Ultra Aire and duct it into your HVAC system (assuming you have traditional forced air heat/cooling). Additionally, they're incredibly more efficient in terms of watts/pints removed.

without a pic it's hard to explain the wall. It'll only be about a 4 food wall and it'll be to a side, so it'll still get all the circulaition it needs it'll just not e out in a walk way...

I think i'm gonna scratch the build in idea.... I'll just find room for it..

Ok, I got the wall built without the build in and there is lots of room for it without it being in the way. Thanks for your help goldenear...
