Sawa samsung DLP rptv in a thrift store, cabinet and screen in excellent shape. It is non functional and if i push the power button once- i get a low then higher pitch 'boop' sound, push second time then high to low 'boop' sound. Does this mean some hard fault in the set or is it the bulb is burned out?? Inquiring minds want to know.......

The lamp doesn't make noise. So the boop is something else. Possible a color wheel as it does make noises, possibly many other things. Too hard to figure out without having a repair person who can test the parts out, because you didn't have the tv to see it start to fail and have other symptoms.

Actually the sounds are coming from the sets speakers. In looking around the the web,i found people describing in a better way than i did as the tv normally makes a series of tones when turned off or on (calling them the turn on song).

Found that the sound is coming from the speakers, other have called this the turn on/ turn off song. No indication lamp is illuminating can be seen inside and no illumination of indicator lights on front panel either.

OK so the sounds are the normal start up sounds. So all you are sure of is that the bulb is out. But usually, there are lights indicating a bulb failure on the front, as you mention.

I guess if you can get the tv for less than $50, you could play around with it. Most parts for DLP tvs start at $150 (a bulb) and go way up from there. So no matter what you'll be putting money into an unknown.

DLPs have many repair problems when bought new, so I think getting one without any history is too big a gamble. But that's just my opinion. Get the exact model and check the owner's thread on this forum and see what's up with the model and proceed from there.

They want $199 for it-not going to jump into that mudhole, original owners probably got high enough repair est. for them to rid themselves of it....Thanks for the help on this.
