I'd be interested to hear what other Home Theater master fans would suggest for me to upgrade to as my older Orion (yes, I know it's the MX-800 - but they named it Orion first dammit! :D ) is starting to show it's daily wear and tear.

I've had HTM remotes for about 5 years now (before this I had a MX-700 that served me awesomely). I programmed both of these completely so I feel very comfortable with both of them, and the tricks I did with them.

I've been looking at the MX-980 and the MX-880. I also own a MX-3000 but bought it on the cheap for a "project" and have been too lazy to throw myself into learning how to prgram it.

So, as someone who is extremely comfortable with the MX-800, which one would you suggest to me? What features aren't in the tech specs that make you love one over the other? Can I import my MX-800 device codes into one of these?

Also, out of respect for you Harmony fans, I will not and can not be converted so...

Having done many URC remotes - the MX-850 was a step up from the 800 (don't know how you went all these years with that stupid select button!) but now they don't supply it anymore.

A good upgrade - and what i upgraded to from my MX-850 - is the MX-900. It's basic and easy to use, but doesn't have the flash and pizzaz (or cost) of the MX-980.

The MX-3000 IMO, should only be used for HT that want that flash without the cost of Crestron, AMX, or C4. They are a PITA to use as a bedroom remote. Imagine having to light up the remote, have it beep at you, and then beep the macro while your wife is trying to sleep 1 foot from you!

You should go to URCcontrolroom.com and sign up for an account. All sorts of fun stuff on the forums there (as well as downloads!)

What would I put for the registration code? Feel free to PM me if you'd like - I'd appreciate any help you could give me on this...

unless you are a urc dealer (or an installer), you aren't going to get access to it... it's not an "end user" resource...

I figured, but he seemed like he might have another "way", so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask... :)

Users of the MX-880 and 980, which one do you like better? What made you choose your model? How's been programming it compared to the 800/700?

Having sold & installed both remotes, I'll say that for most applications, I prefer the MX-880. The MX-880 is very comfortable for one handed use and I like the button layout. The MX-980 is a great remote, but if your system was able to be controlled with the MX-800, the MX-880 is more than enough remote. The programming is fairly straightforward if you're familiar with the MX-800 editor. IMO, the only down side to the MX-880 is its lack of a charging stand, you have to plug it in to the charger. Hopefully, you will be using the remote with RF. If so, I prefer the MRF-350 over the MRF-260. I like the additional ports and the ability to place the antenna away from the components. As for the software, if you purchase the remote from an authorized dealer you can get the software from URC, otherwise you're on your own.

The MX-980 is vastly superior to the MX-800,900 and even the rest of the 3 digit handhelds. It is my most popular seller - next is the MX-6000. The best thing about the 980 is it's high screen resolution. At 240x320 it offers the same real estate as the MX-3000 on a hand-held and it has many hard buttons that people find useful. HOWEVER I believe the MX-5000 is a much better remote both graphically and ergonomically. The 5000 is capable of wifi, is a touchscreen and uses heptic logic which is basically an active response from the remote once a button is pressed. It costly, but really packs a lot of features.
