I have had this remote for a few months but I have only recently started trying to use it. I have added all my devices and I have set up activities.

How do I get the remote to default to a certain device when pressing an activity button ? Here's the problem:

I want to watch something using the WDTV (Live). I set up an activity which uses it, the TV and my Bose speakers. When I call the activity the TV switches to the right input, Bose set properly but the remote doesn't know which of the 3 devices it wants to be. As a result I press device and then select WDTV and the remote starts acting like the WDTV remote. Shouldn't this be automatic? Moreover when I do that the remote no longer has volume control (unless I select Bose after hitting Device).

All 3 devices have default settings so nothing odd is going on when adding the devices. It must be in setting up the Activity Any ideas?

How is the remote supposed to know what is supposed to be when there are many devices?

Thank's,

sounds like a setup problem...

re-do your setup, and make sure you carefully select the "correct" options when it asks you the questions like "what device do you use to control the volume?", etc.

Thank you. I deleted the WDTV and the activity and redid everything from scratch. I adding the WDTV and modified the default button layout by adding a couple of extra buttons. I then added the activity and things worked! But, when I invoke the activity the remote does not see the extra buttons except in the screen where back is one option.

I wanted the menu key of the remote to be back and the info key to be option. If I press device and select WDTV then the remote does activate those. If I just use the activity it doesn't. Back is a "button" in the screen (there are 2 in the screen). Shouldn't I be able to map extra buttons to the basic remote without having to press device?

Basically, I can't see any of the extra buttons unless I invoke device.

Much better than before but still not perfect...

you need to add the buttons to the activity too... even though you added them to the device, the activity doesn't know about them...

That did it. Thank you very much.
