i recently bought a 26" lcd tv to connect my mbp to it so that i can watch my stuff while i can relax on my bed munching away at the popcorn...

i have the old intel mbp 15" (2.4ghz, 4gb ram) running SL and win7...dual boot...and while connecting to the tv i found myself banging my head at a dead end...or i think its a dead end...

scenario 1: used SL only
i connect the mbp using a dvi-hdmi cable...hence, i get no sound...for which i use a 3.5mm-rca cable...but still there is no sound...the tv also has a "pc audio input"....if i connect using that...there is still no sound...

scenario 2: used SL & win7
i connect the mbp using the dvi to analogue adapter...since my tv supports that as well...but this time...there is no signal on the tv...however, the mbp detects another display...but nothing shows on the tv (i get the blue screen of death )...since nothing displays on the screen there is no sound as well...

i also read somewhere that when using the analogue cable the tv's resolution and the monitors resolution should be the same....but that also didn't work...

my friend has the same macbook pro...his is 17"....and he has got the same tv as mine....his is the 32" full hd...when he connected his mbp to the tv using the analogue cable it worked fine...

can anyone help figuring out whats wrong or where i went wrong? :(

Given your results, it sounds like you've skipped the basics.
a)RTFM, b)Check TV output

1. Use your MPB's onscreen help - on how to connect to a TV. (you need to do a couple things BESIDES making connections)
some tips:
generally using mirroring works best. (you'll need to choose a res that works well with both TV & Laptop)

when working with HDMI, make connections while all devices are turned off
If you're using TV's HDMI input, you need to use one that also has Audio R/L inputs
(most HDMI ports expect both audio and video)

If your TV doesn't have a combo HDMI/analog audio input...
Use a DVI->Analog adapter (Apple has some that have both S-Vid and RCA Vid out)

In both cases you can use your 3.5 line to RCA for your audio. (you can also use a special optical cable, but why complicate life)

2. Make sure you've chosen the correct output on you TV.
