I recently managed to damage my HD1 by shipping it without the foam surround around the lens to protect the lens shift mechanism.
Anyway I have now been quoted on its repair and feel it is a little on the high side. The part price is very reasonable, but I am being charged for 2.5 hours of labour, at a rate of $130 per hour!
Can anyone comment on what sort of time frame, and what is involved in replaceing the lens shift gears? Only one is damaged mind you.
Thankyou
Cheers

I know exactly what, how and where got busted on your machine and how to fix it. Hell, I even know the part #
Don't get upset, it's not really your fault as it's JVCs crappy engineering in this case. I love the machine, but this one aspect of it is below average. Anyways, let me guess, when you adjust vertical shift it goes up for a bit, skips and the lens drops?
Right?:)

well it doesn't even go up. I sold the unit, shipped it and forgot the foam support. Now it seems I'm going to be paying the price.
Can you tell me what is involved? indicate how long it takes?? They, the repairer, are quoting on removal of optics etc. Is this required?
Thanks

Hmmm, that is problematic. Since you don't have the pj it would be hard to fix it yourself. In any case, if someone quoted me 2.5 hours for that I think I'd die laughing. I have rebuild the lens with my custom iris in less than an hour. Your job would take me 20 minutes if I was drunk. I really don't know what to tell you though since it sounds like you are at the mercy of the other party. If you can have it shipped back I'll guide you through it.

Happened to me and I sent it to JVC repair in GA, had it back within 2 days. I actually did the same exact thing you did OP. Sold the PJ, forgot to insert foam packing, and ended up with same results. I was able to get it repaired for free through JVC. I went online, printed out the ticket, sent it in. Done deal.

Takes about 20 minutes if you are good at it (I am...done a number of them) and the part is about $10. They are screwing you (if I may be blunt).

Thanks Jason, this is exactly what I suspected!!
Can anyone here, that has fixed one, be kind enough to describe in short what needs to be done?
Cheers
