View Full Version : two machines with identical IR sets - easy way into RS232 control ?

I've got two video processors in my setup which respond to the same IR codes. Both units offer RS232 control, something which I haven't gotten into yet. I'm using a dated TSU7500 which I like because it works and is programmed for all my gear, so I don't really want to replace it.

Is there any kind of (not so expensive) gear which I could look into which accepts IR commands and has 2 or more RS232 outputs which I can use to control the two video processors? Any hints are highly appreciated!

Thanks,
Tobias

Use an RF extender/re-transmitter with assignable outputs. One is available for your Pronto but I don't know if the outputs are assignable. If not, you could use a Zantec cover for an IR emitter on the processor that would be operated with the RF extender and leave the other open to receive IR commands, assuming they're both out where they would both normally receive IR. Otherwise, look on the processors for a 3.5mm IR jack- you can connect an IR emitter output directly using a mono cable with 3.5mm plugs on it. Or, if the remote is set up to operate two RF extenders at one time, you can use two of them.
