Okay I am setting up my home theater and am a bit confused. Here is what I plan on doing;

1. Dish Net box (High Def) to the AVR via Component video / Audio cables. The reason for this is that the HDMI ports on the box continues to go out so I though I would just eliminate the problem.

2. DVD player to AVR via component video / Audio (older unit with no HDMI)

3. AVR to Panasonic Plasma Th-50px60u via HDMI or Component video / audio.

First of all does this sound right?

Second - is it okay to go component from the Dish box to the AVR then HDMI from AVR to TV or should I go component both ways? (remember I am going component from Dish box to AVR due to Dish box HDMI malfunctions).

Will I be able to watch TV without the AVR on with this set up?

Thanks a bunch. Hoping to get this right to get the wifey off my a**

Personally, I would go HDMI from the AVR from the receiver to the TV, if you can. Less wires & less clutter.

Can you get Dish Network to replace the box? Then you could go to just 1 cable instead of 5 with component.

Watching the TV with the AVR off depends on whether it can do HDMI passthrough.
