I have been debating on which Samsung DLP to buy. Their latest biggest (which is what I am going for) is the 67" LED, and the 72" bulb. I want to know which one looks better? I know that neither one is still being produced, but you can still find them on the web, here and there. And still with factory warranties sometimes. And, they are pretty close in price. So can anyone tell me which has the best picture? I think they are both 1080p, but does anyone know if the LED looks better than the bulb?

Where can you find a dlp LED set? I looked all over last month and no one had one.
At any rate, when they were in the store, I played with the 67" LED and the 72" light bulb set.
At the time, I really wanted to buy the 67 " led set to replace my SOny 65", but I got the Sony repaired.
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with the led set. I turned it off of torch mode and the color just didn't look natural. Also, it didn't have good off axis viewing. Funny thing is that i thought the smaller 61" led set looked better than the larger 67" led set. There are some professional reviews of both and the 72" gets better marks.

The big plus with the LED set was the claim they would last for the life of the set, but seeing the number of people seeing failures and reports that the leds change over time make glad that i got the bulb set.

Samsung got out of the DLP business for a reason - their sets didn't hold up beyond the warranty period. The LED sets I saw presented a poor image, compared to their bulb based counterparts.

If you want DLP Mistubishi is the only game left in town. Their 09 sets have gotten pretty good feedback and the bulbs are cheap to replace - $99. Sets are inexpensive for the screen size, and size does matter.

I just googled "samsung 67" and it came up with a few places still selling them. And I am pretty set on a Sammy, as opposed to a mitsu. I saw one of their 70+'s at the local electronics store, and I wasn't impressed. The picture just didn't have that crispness and clarity of the sammys, and the black was not near as black as the sammy's were. I just don't like the picture on the mistsubishis. Any member here ever owned a Samsung 72"? Surely someone must have owned one, that can tell me how they liked it?

Like I have posted before, I own a 72a650. Have you seen any new LED sets for sale? The only 67 led sets I have seen were refurbs which were going for like $1400. I don't remember the amount, but I wouldn't pay over $1200 for one of those if it were refurbed and would definitely buy an extended warranty.Even then, i don't know if I'd get one. For all you know, the refurb could have been a store display that was on torch mode and had a board replaced, still has original light engine in it with a zillion hours on it.
Samsung got out of the DLP biz because consumers want tv's that can be hung on a wall.It is all demand. Most Hdtv's are 50" and below now, which is funny because in the past most projection sets were over 50". DLp is a good tech and I think it was CU that said after the warranty period, failure rate was 10% which though low, was highest for all designs.
I like my 72a650, one thing I can say is that it needs a few weeks of break in before it looks good. When i got it, I tweeked it the best I could and it didn't look right and I saw lots of rainbows. Three days after getting it, I went on a week long road trip, my family stayed home and watch a lot of stuff on it (kids!). WHen I returned, it looked much better, no rainbows. I think the wheel and stuff needed a breakin period. I can't say that I got "used to it" as I was not watching it during that first week of usage.

Saw the Samsung 72 incher at Pacific Sales in Costa Mesa Ca. They actually have new ones and are selling the floor model as well. For what it's worth the set was next to a new Mits 73737 which had a substantially better picture. Not only was it a newer model (Mitsu has made big improvements in this years models) but it was the same price. Unless you have some sort of rebate or credit on the Samsung models there is a noticeable difference in quality. Please please see for yourself. Also, everyone on the web seems to feel that the Samsung's are not made as well. (of course if you get a good one who cares) but the problem you could run into is what if you get the last one and it's a bad one. How do you replace it with so little stock out there? Hope you can see Mits sets in your area. I hope this didn't sound like a Mits ad as I have seen the LED sets as well (some time ago now) and wasn't that impressed with them either. Remember bulbs are cheep now and replaceable by you in the Mits' sets. Not so sure about the Samsung. Please check as I believe that mits bulbs are $99.00 and Sumsungs are $299.00. (and please check to see if the bulbs are owner replaceable on the 72 inch Samsung's)

Search the posts and you'll find those who swear that mitsu's are poorly built. My mother had a rear crt mitsu for 12 years that she loved and replace with a mitsu dlp high def set and had nothing but problems with it. People have problems with both makes, that's why it makes sense to get a extended warranty.
in addition, I have yet to hear a calibrator say much good about the mitsu dlp sets.

Thanks for all the helpful replies everyone. So does anyone know for a cold hard fact that Mitsubishi is very last company to make a DLP? When will they stop, I wonder?

My main problem is that there isn't a giant affordable flat panel TV. Unlike the DLPs, which were much cheaper.

In 2008, the only DLP rp manufactors were Mitsu and Samsung. In 1/09, Samsung announced that they were getting out of the rear projection biz.
It is worth noting that mitsu still makes laser sets. Will mitsu stop? Probably. I am sure that people would like the option of a big cheap screen that you get from dlp, or even just a big dlp, but fact is that most people buy at the big brick stores and they don't want to give the space to display them. Costco is the one noteworthy example. Also, dlp is very much alive and well in the front projection market, in movie theaters and pricey home systems.
So yeah, the only one still making dlp rp is Mitsu.

Hmm, where would you recommend buying a new TV from then? (any new tv) The words "big brick stores" makes me think I should stay away from them lol.

Very few stores will have one on display that you can see. So, you most likley just have to buy sight unseen on line. The benefit of doing this is tha you get a good price and evade paying sales tax.
There is a long sticky about the Samsung 650 series at the top of this forum- I suggest you read it. There is also a similar sticky about the mitsu dlp sets and that too, I suggest you read and use the info to decide on which one to get.
If you are incline to go with Mitsu, I strongly recommend that you see if your local Costco has one on display, if you buy one, they have excellent return policy plus they give you a free extended warranty. I think my local Costco was selling one new for $1800 with the stand, which, combined with a free two year warranty, makes for a great deal. And, if you are not happy with the color decoding (as some have complained about) you can take it back.
