Light engine and bulb were replaced 2 years ago. Upon power up, the lamp light blinks for about 30 seconds, then no lights for about 30 seconds, then the stand-by light comes on steady until power cycle. The lamp lights, but there is no picture and the familiar "click" sound that usually occurs when the picture turns on is not happening. The fan behind the lamp also seems to be operational.

I've tried power cycling, removing/resetting the lamp, and vacuumed out the area (not too much dust).

Thanks for any suggestions!!! :)

Repairman says I need a new digital board.... is that a big expense?

Repairman ran diagnostics. I wasn't here, so I don't know what he used. He called someone and arrived at "bad digital board".

I'm pretty handy, so I ordered the board myself and replaced it. Simple procedure... everything went back in it's place. Same problem.

What do I do now? What else could it be?
Did I just spend an unnecessary $400?
Do lamps light up, but not "work"?
The lamp lights, but the screen doesn't "click" on. Could it just be the ballast?
All the fans are spinning. How can I tell if the light engine is working? Does it make a sound? Does it spin?

Thanks!!!

I am having the exact same problem with my HLS6187WX/XAA. My lamp is lit up and the fan on what I think is the color wheel is running. I power up and the lamp blinks 17 times, then flickers once and then blinks 11 more times. After a period of time the red overtemp/ standby led comes on once and then it will keep the lamp lit for a period of time and then shuts down. I see you bought a board and that didn't phase the problem. I am trying to eliminate getting a service man in who may or may not be qualified above being a parts changer.

Can anyone out there provide any ideas about what the problem with both of these DLPs is? We can't be the only two Samsung owners that have had this situation.

My unit is just over 3 years old and hadn't required any service at all. The original lamp is in there and as far as I know there wasn't any noises that came from the color wheel. Of course, my wife isn't atune to listening for any thing strange, just the picture.

Could the color wheel not rotating be a source of this problem? How can you dtermine if the color wheel is rotating? although the lamp is lit, the screen is not receiving any of it.

Please help someone. I paid alot for this and I expected a longer life than this, If I have to put over a grand in repairs I will just trash it and get a plasma.

I have had a Samsung HL-R6178 since shortly after they came out in 07. The first week I had one half the picture light up when I turned it on. One power cycle usually fixed this problem but it has ocurred several times since then. Almost every time I turn the set on these days, I get no picture but the sound comes on. Most of the time I can change the channel on my Direct TV receiver and the picture comes on. Every now and then I have to power cycle the TV to get it to light up. Also on occaision, the picture comes on and the sound is muted, even though when I touch the sound adjustment I can see that the sound is set about where I left it ,usually around 20% of scale. To correct this I simple press the mute button and then increase the sound setting and it comes up normally. The unit has operated like this since new and I do have a new lamp assembly on standby, but so far I have not had to use it... Before throwing parts at $400 a clip at this problem, I will replace the unit with an LED LCD...
