I'm trying to figure out the best way to wall-mount my plasma in my media niche given its configuration.

My TV is a Panasonic TC-P50S1 plasma (w/o stand weight = 73 lbs, 48" W x 30" H)

I need to mount it such that there is ~8" of free space underneath (to accommodate my AVR). Also, I want it to stick out from the wall ~12" (the niche is quite deep, so I don't want a low profile mount that keeps it flush to the wall, as this makes for a poor viewing angle).

I was thinking about the Monoprice aluminum dual arm swivel mount since it's so reasonably priced.

The problem I think I have is that my stud placement in the niche is such that I would need to put the mount off-center, and then swing out the TV both horizontally (to center it in the niche) and out (to give me the ~12" wall clearance I need).

Here is a picture of what I'm trying to do. Is this going to work? Any suggestions for getting this to look good?

That should work just fine. I have this mount http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082806&p_id=4926&seq=1&format=2 and it would also work. In my case I used it to mount near a corner, then swing the TV into the corner and angle it down. I went with this bracket because of the hole in the mounting plate. My cables come through the wall through that hole since I have a 32" TV. I wanted to make sure my wires would be hidden.

Thanks. I was thinking about that mount too, but given that I have a 50" I thought it safer to opt for the somewhat more expensive aluminum arms swivel mount. I am still worried about sag when I extend it out away from the wall, but I'll cross my fingers that this will work.

Also, am I correct in my diagram with placing the wall mount plate in the vertical center of where I want the TV to sit? Or do I need to mount the plate a little bit higher? I wasn't quite sure how the TV would actually sit on the mount.

The bracket I mentioned will hold me hanging from it (~200 lbs). I didn't try fully extended, but I doubt your TV will sag to be honest.

The mount has two parts. One part (actually two, one left and one right bracket) that mounts to the TV. The nice thing about these brackets is that you can adjust the height of the TV simply by moving the brackets up or down that attach to the TV. So you just have to get the wall mount portion in the ball park and fine tune with the brackets on the TV.
