I am thinking of buying a new set. I have/had a few different 50" Plasmas Samsung, Pioneer Elite 5020, LG and now I see a 50" screen as kind of normal and want something bigger. For approx the same amount of money give or take 400 bucks I can get one the following

58" Samsung 860 (second choice)
55" Samsung 8000 (fourth choice)
55" LG LHX/LH90 (third choice)
65" Panasonic S1 (first choice)
63" Samsung 590 (fifth choice)

Right now I am thinking size is my biggest concern and I can't seem to get any good pricing on a 60" Kuro or a 65" V10 they all seem to put me way over 3k mark.

I know this is week is SEMA as well but I don't quite remember when they start releasing products.

From what I can tell on 65" S1 I am loosing some controls, and basically 24 frames per seconds. Anything else I should really be considering that may shy me into a 58" or 55" Screen?

Have you looked at the Pio KRP-600M? Available for under $3k I think. Blows away all of the ones you mentioned. Look at the huge number of AVS members buying this and hugely satisfied.

i have one, and after you get the green push out it looks pretty good. the one thing i notice w/ this screen being of this magnitude is if you have a poor feed it looks like $hit. for instance leno and all of the other night show host looks fantastic, but take the world series broadcasted on FOX and it is a little more grainy and looks like very good upconverted sd instead of some of the hd nfl games due. imho the farther you sit away the better it looks, w/ some exceptions of course. you would really do this set a favor and enter the SM and adj. the offsets.(white-bal) it is very limited as fine tuning it. however in the s1 threads take a look at droid6's pdf results they look very good.

IMHO there is no substitute for screen size. None of these devices is perfect. I would go with the 65 S1 and stop tying yourself up in knots.

I have about 115 hours on my 65 s1 and have 0 remorse. Sure, I could have had a better set (maybe) in the v10 but it's tough to justify what you are spending that extra $1000 on IMO.

I have had my 65s1 for a couple weeks. I wanted the 65v10, but couldn't find one so settled for the 65s1. I agree with the other posts, I have been a bit dissapointed with regular television, and especially the World Series on Fox. However, with a good HD signal I am very happy. Extremely happy with BluRay Playback using my Oppo 83 player. I would buy it again, but wish regular programming looked better, not that it looked a lot better on my older Panny 50px60u.

would the 65V10 look the same as what your seeing on regular TV?

I am no expert, but I think any of the larger plasmas and LCDs just do a better job of showing you how lousy regular tv is. I think the larger size just emphasizes the poor PQ of standard def television. When I feel bad about regular tv quality, I just pop in a bluray..

SD sucks on any tv. Is it worse on the 65S1? I don't know . Wanted the 58v10 but could not find one at the time and the 65V1o was more than I wanted to spend. No remorse. The 58 would not have been big enough.
