I have a 50" Sony WEGA 3LCD purchased in either 04 or 05. I don't have the exact model # off hand.

I have been relaly satisfied with it, so far.

Lately, I've been noticing that WHITE pictures, epsecially near the middle of the screen, have a noticable yellow tint. And recently, I've noticed that BLACK pictures have a clight blue heu to them, although this is not nearly as noticable, and not a major concern of mine.

The problem is not noticable in colors other than white.

For example, if you were watching a hockey game (white ice), the center third of the screen is stained yellow. Not completely yeloow, but... the best I can describe it is like if you've ever painted a house with heavy smoking stains in the paint. when you put the frsh white paint on, you can really see how yellow it has turned.

Since the TV is sevral years old, I am certain it is out of warranty, so there may not be much I can do. I am hoping, that maybe the bulb is just starting to go. Would this be a symptom if a failing bulb?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can snap a pic if it would help.

I am guessing it is a kdf-e50a10.

The problem is your optical block. A major issue with all Sony rear projection (non CRT) models. Just check out the xbr1 or xbr2 owners threads. Jump to the last page. It is all that is talked about. Even though they are sxrd it is a problem with 3 LCD models as well.

So my model is the only one to not have the warranty extended:
KDF-E50A10

However, according to this: http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/sonyrearprojectionlcdtv-opticalblock

there is a pending class action lawsuit

My 42A10, purchased in 2005, had the optical block replaced under extended warranty last spring. It looks great now, but who knows how long before the problem shows up again. The cost without warranty would have been $800+, hardly worth the investment on outdated flawed technology. If your experience is anything like mine, it will only get much worse over time. As far as the class action, I think the best you could hope for is some kind of deal on a new Sony LCD, and it could be a long time coming. If I were in your situation, I would just write it off as a lost cause and start shopping for a new TV.

Have you called Sony to see if they will offer a replacement discount?

No.
Dishing out thousand$, even at a discount, is not a solution to my faulty TV.

I'd rather have it repaired. However, since they repair it with the same faulty optical block, I'd like to wait until the problem gets really bad. There's no guarantee that the new OB will last another 4 years or another 4 months.

Quick Update: Called a repair man. He said that he can't help me until the class action lawsuit is settled. He predicts that I could get another year out of it until the problem gets really bad, and hopefully the case is settled by then.

called Sony: They claimed that they are unaware of the lawsuit and won't help me. However if there is a lawsuit and a settlement, they will abide by the terms of the lawsuit. However, if I fix it now, I pay for it.

They also said that my problem could just be caused by a dirty optical block needing to be cleaned. I'm not sure I buy it... And it'll cost me $150 to have it cleaned and possibly not help at all....

hmmm......
