Everything I've read (on here as well as other sites) indicates that component cables will pass 1080p. I can't speak to which gives a better picture as I've not ever used HDMI cables. I just recently purchased a receiver that even has an HDMI input, but I'm still using component cables for my hi-def viewing. For the record, I'm quite happy with the video from component. Others will swear by HDMI. Ben Sheridan1952 11-07-09, 12:57 AM The difference is that Component is analog, HDMI is Digital. That's odd. There's no problem with the cables passing 1080p, but most consumer electronics will only output 1080i over component. If you want 1080p, then HDMI is required. Mike Selden Ball 11-07-09, 12:01 PM HDMI requires RGB digital to analog conversion in the projector. Component requires YUV to RGB conversion in the projector. Whether and how much difference there is between them depends on the circuitry in the projector. wiatrak 11-07-09, 01:03 PM "HDMI requires RGB digital to analog conversion in the projector." I think this is valid only with CRT PJs, rest of projectors are digital devices... Component requires conversion in projector, but from analog to digital. YUV to RGB needs simply maths, add and mulptiply, there's no conversion... ;) RudyRedNose 11-10-09, 11:35 AM But we live in an analog world ! Be it LCD or DLP, with digital inputs, there will be a D to A conversion within the projector. BuffaloJim 11-10-09, 05:36 PM While I ultimately think HDMI is the better choice, the jury is still out, especially among the professional installers.
