View Full Version : USB capture device for mac? looseyjuice 11-06-09, 03:14 PM I've looked for days for a USB capture device for a mac with hdmi or component inputs but couldn't find anything. could any of you show me something that will work? thanks. bfdtv 11-06-09, 05:11 PM There is unofficial Mac support for the Hauppauge HD PVR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116030) (USB component capture device) with this $30 application (http://www.steventoth.net/blog/products/hdpvr-capture/). That's about your only option. jtbell 11-06-09, 11:44 PM I use the Hauppauge HD PVR on a MacBook with Elgato's EyeTV software (which I already had because I have one of Elgato's EyeTV USB tuners). I have no experience with the HDPVRCapture application that looseyjuice mentioned, but it looks pretty good to me. looseyjuice 11-07-09, 04:05 AM I use the Hauppauge HD PVR on a MacBook with Elgato's EyeTV software (which I already had because I have one of Elgato's EyeTV USB tuners). Anyway, you connect whatever device you want to record from to the HD PVR's component-video input, and connect the HD PVR's USB output to a USB port on the Mac. Launch the EyeTV software. When you turn on the HD PVR, EyeTV recognizes it as an input device just like it does Elgato's own EyeTV USB tuners, except that EyeTV's controller displays "Component Input" instead of a channel number. Hit the "record" button on the controller to start recording. On a Mac, you can also use the HDPVRCapture application that I mentioned. For PCs, Hauppauge includes capture software with the HD PVR. I use this setup only for dubbing recordings off a Sony HD DVR for archiving, so I haven't tried to schedule unattended recordings off a HD tuner or cable box, i.e. use it as a substitute for a DVR. For that, the computer has to be able to change channels on the tuner or cable box via an IR blaster. |
