View Full Version : Need to Purchase this week HD20 or get the AE4000 - upgrading from a old AE300
rastargate 11-09-09, 11:14 AM Hey Guys,
I need to pull the trigger this week and I am getting into the HT portion of my loft remodel. I have had the AE300 for years and it has worked well. I am sure the HD20 will be a huge step up from that. I wanted to get the thoughts on if I should pony up and get the AE4000?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Ray

If you keep a projector for a decent amount of time I would go with the Panasonic AE4000. It has easy placement flexibility and beats the Optoma in every way.

Ray,
I just sold my HD20 and went with Panny 4k. If you are planning to watch mostly movies (not sport/games) there is absolutely no comparison. The black level, flexibility etc. However, for gaming and such; hd20 seems to be brighter plus no lag as with any DLP technology. In summary, I am very happy with my decision, 4k is much better IMHO

Where are you going to use your PJ?
If you are going to put it in the living room and pull the drapes for movies, video games and football then save you money and get the HD20. It's probably all you need.
But if you want to put it in a dedicated room or a room that feels like a dedicated room when the lights go out, pony up for the AE4000. The color is better, and the projector is quieter. The AE4000 has more flexibility in installation. Besides if you have a universal remote, you won't have to reprogram it for the Panasonic.
Be aware that the size and color of these two projectors is day and night as well. You will need much more space to mount the AE4000 and it won't blend in with your ceiling if it is white. ;)
rastargate 11-09-09, 04:10 PM It's actually in a open Timber Loft with 19 giant windows so light is always an issue.
The white casing of the HD20 bothers me as it will stick out much more than the 4000, hence me starting to rethink it.
Hmmmmm

Wow...that is a lot of light. I hope you are using it for night viewing only.

That's a tough call. All of the light canons have white or off cases. Epson, Optoma HD20, AX200 etc. Where do you want your best picture? in your room or on your screen?
KO Abear 11-09-09, 07:22 PM If you have any light issues at all I would go with the Panny AX-200. I still have mine and have recently upgraded to the panny 4k for my light controlled theater and I love it...but the picture quality on the 200 compares favorably and looks better with lots of ambient light. The 1080p issue is really NOT and issue IMO.
rastargate 11-10-09, 09:10 AM I only use it for night viewing....hmmm now you have me thinking about the 200...
