Hi all! I have a 16' by 15' room in my newly started finished basement where I can build my man cave.

I play X-box 60%, watch Movies 20% and HBO 20%.

I know I want the Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector. I have a PS3 slim coming for Blu-ray.

I want to do six seats preferably two rows of three. I know my screen size my have to be 92" but that is like winning a small lottery. I'd be most pleased.

I have having great difficulty with the Receiver, Speakers and Sub.

Here are my thoughts:
Onkyo TX-NR807
BIC VK-12 subwoofer
And I have about 1000 give or take a few hundred for 7.1 speakers.

I have been staring hard at the Bic Acoustic, but have not heard them. I like crisp clean sound, but who doesn't?

Do I need a 7 channel amp as well? Am I heading down the wrong direction?

If it was me, I would probably choose a different receiver. According to Home Theater Magazine, the Onkyo 807 only does Seven channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads: 0.1% distortion at 29.9 watts 1% distortion at 33.0 watts. Also, you might want to take a look at some of Polk Audio's speakers. Newegg has them on sale regularly.

Any suggestions for a GREAT 7.1 or 7.2 (no idea what the difference is) receiver under $1000?

Welcome to AVS and also for signing up as a club member. Much appreciated!

May I make a suggestion....

We've divided up AVS into differenet forums, this area for instance is dedicated to "accessories", which would include popcorn makers, theater chairs, posters etc...items that take the HT enviroment creating a more "commercial theater" enviroment.

I would post seperate topics in the more focused forum dedciated to their aspect of the hardware etc. An example would be our receivers forum for the topic of 7.1 receivers. You'll find members that audio is "their thing" and tend to hang out in that area. This forum gets the least amount of traffic and there is no guarantee that those with the audio bug will even see your post, much less this thread. There really isn't one forum that is a good "catch all".

Good Luck
Ron
