I usually find my answers by searching this site. But not this one.
I have a VIP722. It will not respond to the #1 (IR) remote control until after about 10 minutes of firing it up. But it always responds immediately to the #2 (UHF) remote.
I've tried three new remotes and had Dish send me a replacement VIP722. I lost all my saved movies by doing this and still suffer from the same problems.
So yes I have a new DVR and new Remotes. I've gone through the menus trying to find some setting that may be related. No dice.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It may not be the 722. Do you have an LCD set? There is a known issue that some LCD sets produce a lot of IR noise at startup that then interferes with IR remotes.

I do. It's a 42" Sharp Aquos. The first VIP722 worked great with it for a long time(maybe over a year) before the problems began. I got them at the same time. Is there anything that can be done about it?

The Aquos is well known for emitting very high levels of IR interference, which interfers with several different receivers DVRs, including also DirecTV and some cable boxes. It actually comes from the backlight controls. Usually, adjusting the backlight level, or the sensitivity of the auto backlight, solves the problem. Or moving the receiver so it is in a different position relative to the TV.
Putting some black tape over the IR sensor of the DVR to reduce the sensitivity of the sensor has also been posted as a solution.

Thanks for identifying my problem. This morning I tested this by putting a light blanket over the screen. The DVR worked fine. And thanks for the suggestions to fix it.

An update here in case anyone had this issue:
Dish guy came out for an issue with the TV2 remote, and I mentioned the problem I had here on TV1. He gave me an RF remote. Fixed ;-)
