A few months ago my wall mounted Mitsubishi HC1500 projector stopped recognizing HDMI signals from all my devices ( except for my old dvd player which still works fine for some reason) With my DVR, it accepts the signal, displays it for about 5 secs then goes to a black screen. The menu still says 480P or 1080i or 720P , so it is getting a signal but it is not displaying it. I have tried different cables and many different devices and called Mitsubishi and done a master reset so I know it is an issue with the HDCP handshaking internally.

Now I have to send it off somewhere for repair. I only paid $575 for it and I don't want to spend a lot to have it repaired. It is out of warranty and I want to know the cheapest company to send it to with a proven track record. Can you give me some advice?

Thanks

Did you try a new cable yet? So it works with the DVD but does not work with other device that it previously did work with that are NOT cable boxes? If it is only cable boxes that don't work then you may have an issue with a firmware update on the cable box. I would at least try a new or different HDMI cable before packing it off for repair if you have not done so.

Sorry missed the fact you tired other cables..
Good luck!

If you have to send it in for repair, call Mitsubishi and ask if the EDID ROM can be reflashed. If so it might just cost you shipping and an hour of labor. Then again the main board could've failed, and there's no way you'll know until it goes into the shop.

airscapes-> Yes I tried 2 different DVRs , 2 laptops 1 desktop and a ps3, all the same results with different cables.

TF Ghost--> Thanks, next time i call them I will ask them if there is anyway to do this and a cost estimate.

Sorry to bring back an old thread like this but my dad just finally got the projector looked at at a local electronics store. They said it was something on the main board of the projector. They would have to send it back directly to Mitsubishi for it to be repaired. Isn't that a very expensive repair job to repair the motherboard?

When it initially broke , we had a lightning storm and 2 of our DVR boxes broke and Charter had to come out and replace them. But when we had the projector checked it did not show signs of lightning damage ( burn or melted components) . I am hoping our insurance will cover it since we can show there was a storm that day and our dvr's broke as well.

Since I only paid $575 for the projector, should I just call my insurance company and have them replace it at the full retail cost. Even after my $500 deductible I should still get ~$500 since it retailed at $1000 when it came out I think. Is this my best bet?

Yes, if it's not under warranty I would have your insurance company reimburse you. I'm not sure of the amount for a main board replacement on this model but they typically run around $700-$1000.

Have it replaced. If it was damaged by a surge, then while they can repair what's wrong, there is no guarantee that something else won't fail later.

As far as "repairing" the main board, most manufacturers don't perform component level repair on the projectors. They replace the entire assembly. Some do repair the boards, but it is not common. I can't tell you what Mitsubushi does, I've not had any experience with them.

I can tell you that my supplier lists the main board for your projector at about $670. So given all you've said, replace it. Especially since it may have been hit by a surge.

Thanks, I will try and have him contact them and get it replaced. This is a good reason to upgrade to the HC3800 i guess :D
