I have an Optoma H31 with 2K hours on the lamp. It's looking a little soft and dim, I'm now running the lamp on High. After 4+ years of flawless service it may be time for an upgrade. I use it for movies and games in a nearly light controlled environment by day, bat cave by night, on a 92" screen.

The new budget 1080P models have caught my attention. I know they'll be better for movies, I'd upgrade to BR soon as well. My main question is for gaming. Just played Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox360, I'm wondering if I'm leaving a lot of game detail on the table with only 480 lines.

Anyone upgrade from 480 to 1080 and have an opinion on gaming improvement, particularly on the new HD games? Developers can model a square at 1080, but it may not look better than 480 due to polygon density and such.

LOL

Go buy a $999 1080p projector...

Play a game for 5 minutes...

You'll slap your self for even posting this thread, and get the joke... :p

We sold a guy a 720p projector once, and the idiot hooked up his ps3 to it with svideo and played FPS shooters all day long. I wen to visit him and was like WTF man, you got HDMI ran through your ceiling for a reason, plugged it in, and he felt like a ****** lol. He was pulling out old games just to see what all he missed.

It's like riding horses on muddy dirt roads vs a new 911 on the highway. It's like rabbit ear antenna reception vs hidef. Make sure you don't have to use the bathroom or just choose to wear a diaper!

You're going to be thrilled with a new 1080p projector. I upgraded from my H31 (after several years of flawless service) to an Epson HC 720 then an Epson 8100 (1080p). Both projectors are far better with HD games than the H31. The H31 was especially soft in 1080i.

Definitely get the 1080p projector if you're into gaming. Even though most games are native 720p I think 1080p will still look slightly better than 720p with games, even though either choice is a huge improvement over the H31. You won't regret the upgrade decision.

The H31 is an excellent projector for Wii at 480p and DVDs, but very soft with HD material, even in comparison to other 480p projectors. Plus, most new projectors are going to be quite a bit brighter than the H31.
