Hi all. I have been a 9yr customer with DirecTV and overall I am very pleased with their service and quality of programming. Recently my HR-21 has been flaking out (which I own not lease) and they shipped me the HR-22.
I have been reading that the HR-23 is the best DVR they offer. Is this true? I mean if I am going to lose all of my recordings and start from scratch,I want it to be the best move possible. Also is there ANY way to transfer data/shows from one DVR to the other?
Thanks, Marcus
Unfortunately there isn't. You could use a DVD recorder or VCR to save them in SD. When they replace a receiver they send out whatever they want but try to match what you had before. Some people get refurbed HR20s, I like the HR20s better than the 21s. You did well to get a 22, they are all functionally equal except for a slightly larger hard drive in the 23.

The HR22 and HR23 both have the same size hard drive. The only difference between them is that the HR23 has a different satellite receiver that does not require that you use B Band Converters (BBCs) when using the typical slimline dish. You would not use BBCs with either receiver if you have a SWM multiswitch or SWM LNB. That is the only difference. It is hard to say that one is better than the other.

You are correct, I was wrong about the drive size.
