I am looking for a second TV and came across this model. I see reviews of this TV on the net, does anybody own this ? How does this TV perform ? The reviews I see rate this TV with its price point in mind - around $2500.

What if this TV is available for around $800 ? Will that be an attractive buy ?

Thanks !

I just got one on a super weekend sale. they said the sale was over but it was still ringing up at the sale price so they sold it for that. less than 1/4 the orig retail price. cheaper than any current Sony 40" I've looked at. first poster is very close.

it's firstly a Japanese made designer piece, very clean and thin, black brushed aluminum. Monitor only, 1 (yes ONE) input (HDMI). works perfect with my Sony HD DVR - dhg-hdd500. The speakers in the round pedestal sound better than I was expecting.
Color seems very good, uniformity not as good as the top end traditional LCDs, but for a bedroom set it's excellent.
Not for everyone but for the price I paid for this new sealed one from Sony, it's a steal. I may get another one.

Thanks, gigaguy. This is what I was looking for. Since I haven't seen the TV personally yet, and yes, I need it for bedroom TV. Basically, what I wanted to know was for the price I said above, is the quality acceptable.
Did you get it for lesser than the price I said ? By the way, if you look in amazon.com, there is someone who has posted that he got it for $1000.

Curious where you're seeing it for that price? I'm in the same area as you and looking for a possible extra TV for a bedroom.

Quality is good enough for me. I have a Sony 40XBR7 which I think has better standard def picture, but the 40XBR7 is an amazing set IMO, probably blacker than the ZX1. but for my needs the ZX1 is great and undeniably sexy.
If PQ is the only consideration I think the XBR7 and XBR9 are very slightly better.
but the ZX1 is no slouch, it's just edgelit technology which has it's own issues but it;s not a deal breaker at all. Looks very good, but I have other very good sets to compare to.

Did you say this was a monitor only? No tuner? I am assuming that the frame you said was anodized aluminum and that sounds cool. It would also explain the price, fewer electronics.

I also have a couple of Sony HD DVRs and now I really don't use the tuners in the sets anymore.

It's a monitor, no tuner. see it at sonystyle.com all details and specs are there.
has power input and 1 hdmi and speakers in the pedestal.
I could have gotten 3.3 of em for sony's online price

Saw this set at Sony Style yesterday. Wasn't impressed at all. They were playing Wall-E, blue ray player through HDMI. Looked quite average. In fact, the S series, the lowest end model looked better than this one. I wonder whether this is due to settings not being proper or is the set picture quality is so poor ?

Abybody who owns this set, can you please let me know what is the PQ, through Blueray/HDMI or HD feed ?

Thanks !

(maxdog, you have PM)

This is the first round-base Sony BRAVIA HDTV that I have seen for ages (the last being an earlier gen model form a few years ago).

If the prices drop, then I may actually considering getting one hehe :D

I've only viewed it for 2 days, but I am happy with the PQ. Colors look good, no bad light bleeding. a little that I only notice on some material. I have only briefly tuned the settings but I keep the 'backlight' set low, like 2 or 3. I like it for the bedroom set. I've viewed HD DVR of cable/OTA. looks fine to me. THe one I saw in the store was almost hot to the touch on the frame, mine stays super cool, and uses apparently much less power than conventionally lit sets.
the worst thing I've seen is off center viewing, image does fall off quickly. but I watch it from bed so it doesn't matter to me.
face it, this is a design/materials set first, and it was the first edgelit. but I'm happy with it. esp for the price. It was priced very close to a 40" S5100.

speaking of the base pedestal, it does not swivel like the new 52XBR10 does. I wish it did.

Yes, it's about the same price as the 40" S series.
From your experience, is the PQ better than the S series ?
or, same, less ?

Never has an S, I've mostly hadd XBR sets,
46XBR2, 40XBR7, 40XBR1, 32XBR1, and a 52W5100 now.
as I say I have not put it thru a lot of paces, but for my use- Sony HD DVR, it's fine. I am picky about PQ, the only issue I see is off center viewing is poor.

Thanks - I guess it could be settings issue at the store the PQ looked worse than the lowest model (S series)
