I have a TivoHD and want to fix the output to 720p or 1080i. I have HD and SD signals coming in on coax to the Tivo and out to the tv via HDMI. The question is should I get a 720p lcd or 1080p lcd? Either way it will be either a 37 or 40 inch screen. There is no Blu-Ray in my future. I guess my question is will having it sending a signal to 1080p when Tivo can't output that just add another upconvert in the chain and actaully potentially make the picture worst?
Thanks.
EDIT: Reason for asking. Do I get the Toshiba 37RV525R (1080p) or Panasonic TC-L37X1 (720p).

The fact that the Tivo can't output 1080p isn't really an issue. In fact, you'd end up with more conversion steps with the 720p TV regardless. This is because pretty much all 720p TVs sold (including the Panny) are actually 1366x768 panels. So even with a 720p signal, there's upconverting. With a 1080i signal, the Panny needs to de-interlace and downscale.
The Toshiba would upscale a 720p signal to 1080p. For a 1080i signal, it would just de-interlace.
In either case, I don't think the screen resolution would make that big a deal in the overall picture quality. Compare the sets based on other qualities, such as contrast, refresh rates, etc. (and don't just read the specs to compare ... go to a store and do a real comparison ... or at least ask around).
For me, the Panny would be the winner for the iPod connector alone. I'm actually looking at getting the 26" version for the kitchen and the iPod connector would be a great way to listen to music (or watch video if I ever do get a video capable iPod).
Good hunting.
