I will be doing most of my TV viewing in the evening. The TV would be in FRONT of a window, so no direct sunlight going ONTO the screen, although I will be getting the sunset in my eyes. During the day, the room is fairly bright.

My fiancee and I will be watching a lot of movies together, but I also do a LOT of gaming, both of XBOX and PS3.

I don't know if this matters or not, but I have a Denon AVR590 and Polk Audio RM6880's as my audio portion.

I'm torn right now between two Samsung's. The LN52B610 and the PN50B650.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much guys!

Here is a big thread that compares the 2 sets. More if you do a search

Thanks so much. I tried finding that, guess I missed it.

Although it seems those don't really compare these specific models. I'm trying to decide whether I want Plasma or LCD. That thread makes a lot of references to older models and Best Buy exclusives.

For a lot of gaming and evening viewing, I say Plasma is the better bet. I have both a Plasma and LCD and prefer the Plasma hands down.

This is a reply I posted earlier to day in the LCD forum to a similar question. We do a good amount of gaming on our panels:

I can provide some insight Fadi. We own 2 Samsung a750's lcds and last month purchased a b750 lcd for my study that is used mostly for gaming. The b750 had a great HD picture but between its built in auto-dimming feature and inherent input lag we returned it and purchased a Panasonic 54in S1 Plasma.

They both have great pictures when fed an outstanding HD source, really cant say which one is better. Put on a compressed HD signal like many Comcast feeds and the LCD with its added processing pulls ahead in providing a cleaner, brighter picture.

However, the plasma ROCKS for PS3/360 gaming due to its extremely low input lag and better on-screen motion handling. Screen burn-in is no longer an issue with the new Panny plasmas so they make a strong gaming panel.

So its really a balancing act: These newer LCD's seem to have heavily processed pictures, auto-dimming, edge enhancements..etc (even in game mode) and it subtly affects the gaming responsiveness. Plasmas offer a more natural, less processed picture which sometimes may look inferior to a high-end lcd. If its mostly viewing, I think I would lean toward LCD (maybe, depends on pricing). If you are going to be doing some or a lot of gaming, I would go plasma mainly due to a better gaming experience. Gaming just feels better on a plasma. This is not speculation, this is from my hands on experience with both.

HD/BD Viewing ----> LCD

HD/BD Viewing/Gaming ----> Plasma

Hope this helps.

I would agree with mostly all that the last poster said with the exception that in my experience plasma looks best at what ever you throw at it. you even have a controled setup you're golden. i use my plasmas for gaming for like 99% and movies 1% regardless if its side bars or letterbox

That's not true, a LCD will beat a plasma in brightly lit room, always.

Didn't the OP say he would have a window that was behind the set at sunset?

I don't know what sounds worse, having sun directly on the screen or having the sun behind the screen, talk about accent lighting. Depending on the time of day when most of the viewing was done, it could go either to PDP or LCD IMO, but I would do the LCD because of the brightness that would help with the extra "accent lighting" that he will get at some times of the day.

exactly! yes he did say he has a window that would be in the back of the tv thus not being an issue. i did that with my 2007 panasonic plasma px75u and it works out perfect.

i bet he WILL be botherd by the lcd downfalls more then he would by watching a plasma tv.

Yup any plasma looks like trash in any room without blinds. Unless they are blackout blinds it will even look different on sunny and cloudy days, cloudy being the best of course.

When you need to know the weather and time of day for TV watching something is seriously wrong :p

Come out of the cave for a moment. Plasma is inferior to LCD in brightly lit rooms, and yes many people watch TV in those type of enviornments.
