I have searched a bit on false walls, my def: walls that are not load bearing and have some sort of acoutically transparent (AT) qualities in order to mask the hordes of electronics that can clutter the look of a decent hometheater. REF: FALSE WALLS on AVSFORUM (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1002317) and Flat Screen over empty space on AVSFORUM (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1013230). I have trolled enough, and would like to know if anyone has examples/suggestions.

What I am trying to create is a super clean look of just the TV mounted to the wall. in this case a "False Wall".

My inital concepts include using black painted studs to frame the wall, then black painted plywood secured in the middle for TV mounting, stretch black grill cloth across it and a heavy base for stability.

-Assume TV weighs ~150lbs (Sony 52KDL-XBR4)
-Assume I have the right bracket from omnimount

Found Grill cloth and grill fasterners at Parts Express

Counter weight/ base support cinderblock/ sandbags/ 3-4, 45lb plates.. ??

Associated equipment: Klipsch LaScala's, Cerwin Vega! Horn Loaded-Pro Audio EL-63C "Earthquake" Subwoofer. (see what I am trying to hide)

Thanks.

Most of the false walls built in this section are still attached somehow to the structure of the room (floors, ceiling and walls). If you plan on building a freestanding structure counterweights are a good idea. But I think you already have your counterweights (Klipsch LaScala's, Cerwin Vega! Horn Loaded-Pro Audio EL-63C "Earthquake" Subwoofer) so no need to add anything else to the mix.

I see a small plywood floor with the false wall attached to one edge of it. Use some 2x4s to create triangles to keep the wall from moving forward and back. Place your "counterweights" on the plywood floor to hold it in place. That should more than makeup for the load from the TV.

Interesting. The concept of the free standing wall came from the idea that one could make multiple uses from one room and/or allow for some level of customization w/ a whole lot of portablity (If I moved).

I am with you for "Counter Weights"..

Anytime I have an idea like this AND it's not been done.. or no one has examples.. It usually not a good idea.. Folks with Projection screens have dedicated rooms.. Folks with Flat Panels wall mount with shallow or inwall speakers.. everyone else uses a TV stand that is designed to work with small sattellite speakers..

I have a flat screen TV, with VERY wide and VERY deep Speakers... and I feel from integration perspective I have miss matched. The speakers are first rate, and I don't want to comprimise them.

To re-integrate or balance, what I have, from asthetic stand point, what suggestions are out there?

Not all build threads have projectors. But most of those are going to be in the General Home Theater area. There is one build thread I remember in here that used a flat panel.
