View Full Version : Now that Pioneer is gone...
punkrocksailor 11-19-09, 05:13 PM So now that Pioneer is gone I'm not sure where to go for my next tv. I have a two year old Pioneer 5080 and I'm looking to step up to a 60". I don't need a ton of picture control but don't want to go backwards, I want more inputs (at least 3-4 component and 3-4 HDMI) and I want a picture at least as good as my Pioneer (I know 1080P will be more important in this size but I'm pretty sure that's a given as far as spec's go now in 2009 almost 2010). What particular plasma sets should I be looking at?
Cheers,
Joel

Uh, Pioneer isn't gone yet. So if you're looking for a new TV now and like Pioneer, why not just get a new Pioneer?

You can still get a KRP-600M, but it doesn't have the number of inputs you are looking for.
Other than that, a V10 panny would probably be the display to consider or wait till the next gen are released.
daniel'son 11-19-09, 05:50 PM .. possibly the 58" version (or 65") of the V10.

For what it's worth, BB still has the 6020 listed on their web site.
hhaller 11-19-09, 07:15 PM Just go with a 600M.
Saturn94 11-19-09, 09:21 PM I've seen recent posts where buyers are still finding the 151 also. It's worth a shot to see if you can find one. Unfortuately, at this time there are no other panels as good as the Pioneers (IMHO).
Cleveland Plasma 11-19-09, 09:34 PM well, they are just about gone. Act fast !
punkrocksailor 11-20-09, 01:59 PM Is anybody gearing up to be the next Pioneer and offering a display that is better than most other available models by a good margin or are we going to have to be satisfied with "very good" for the next few years?
kerplunknet 11-20-09, 02:05 PM This is my question... How much better do you want? I just got a KRP-500M and it's basically perfect. What more is there?

nothing and i mean nothing is better by a good margin.....
Pio, Panny and sammy all put out great sets.

My understanding is that Panasonic bought Pioneer's tech, so I would expect Panasonic might fill that void at some point.
tbird8450 11-20-09, 05:53 PM That would be the deal of the century...if only it was really a 151.
tbird8450 11-20-09, 06:00 PM A 151 *is* 60".
Your link doesn't specify the specific model. I assume it's "merely" a 5020.
daniel'son 11-20-09, 06:04 PM .. starpower's there: (authorized dealers)

Can't he get an HDMI switcher if he wants more imputs?
EBAY has both 141's and 151's from dealers/with warranty....(some without or questionable)......... I have been wanting one of these for a few years now, it arrived yesterday. I am a very happy camper!!
Just my 2 cents.

Can't he get an HDMI switcher if he wants more imputs?
sure, but that is not what he stated he wanted. He could also get an AVR that could give him more inputs as well
HearingImpaired 11-21-09, 12:40 AM I have a Samsung PN50B550 and it looks good on standard definition and great with HD cable or Blu ray/ upconverted dvd. I know there's a 63 inch model however some people have experienced buzzing with the set. It has all the connections you could want including i believe 4 hdmi imputs, usb and other connections.

Which is it? Yur first post suggested you were actually in the market right now and wanted practical advice about current sets. Now you're morphing it into a philosophical discussion about "life after Pioneer" for which there is at least half a dozen other topics on this forum already. They cover exactly this ground so why be repetitive?
lazerfan 11-21-09, 01:38 PM My local Elite dealer, Gibby's Audio Video in St.Catharines Ontario, still has 600's, 141's and 151's, all on sale. He's out of the 50" models though. Glad I snagged my Pro 101Fd a month ago!
Sorry Im out of the loop, but is Pioneer going out of business, or just stoppin selling televisions? Whats up with the Pioneer is all but gone?
Quick explanation, link to reason?
Thanks
Kimeran 11-26-09, 12:46 PM they are just stopping televisions as they are still going to be making audio equipment. and Panasonic bought all of Pioneer's technology and i have heard that they also hired most if not all of Pioneer's engineers as well. Lets hope we see something in the next couple of months from them.
