View Full Version : $699 to spend @ BB. HELP!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?
I have a return authorization that has been issued at Best Buy and I would like so help picking out a new TV. I have $699 in credit. They also told me that any money of the credit that I didn't spend would be issued to me on a gift card... SO I'M NOT PUSHED TO SPEND IT ALL IN ONE PLACE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
The TV being replaced is a:
Samsung 42A450. Bed room TV. Viewing distance is about 6.5 feet. (won't always be like that)
We use it mainly for TV (standard and HD) some video gaming and movies.
I'd like the most bang for the buck and would be willing to spend about $100 more if the upgrade is worth it. (best buy has the silver reward members sale starting tomorrow. 10%-12% off with coupon (and I have one too.)
I really would like the Panny 50 inch s1. But its a little out of the price range. (if someone knows a good price match place so I can get the price down some and get Best Buy to match it, please let me know)
thanks for any and all help. I'm trying to get this completed before the end of the weekend. I thought about waiting till Black Friday, but none of the TV deals are worth me waiting for.
thanks again.
daniel'son 11-19-09, 07:56 PM .. all can find are 50" 720p Panasonic (X1) for 15dlrs more (Dell) & 42" 1080's in your range. also, see the Samsung 720p 50", if yr interested. :)
so bestbuy will price match with dell? dell is considered brick and mortar? i see those sammys that are close to my price range, but im just not sold at how good a product those are. arent they bottom tier? like really bottom tier?
EAGLEFAN67 11-19-09, 10:06 PM Add a couple of hundred and buy you a nice tv...stop being cheap , price match what ?
daniel'son 11-19-09, 10:25 PM .. three bills more for 46" 1080p S1 at Sears; try to work w/ BB on some compromises will yr credit and discount. :)

I say Best Buy will match anything if you talk to a manager and threaten to take your business elsewhere. The 2009 Sammy's are not bottom tier at all. They are a great value.
speedyd718 11-20-09, 10:28 AM got my 42" S1 from sears for that.

That's the way to go.

you'd rather have the 42 inch instead of the 50 inch?
Add a couple of hundred and buy you a nice tv...stop being cheap , price match what ?The panasonic 42x1 or 50x1 are nice tvs dont equate spending more money with somthing being better thats what people without wisdom do. I could put you in a $2000 lcd and the picture will not be as nice. Theres a big difference between being cheap and being a smart consumer.
They had the panasonic 50x1 on sale a little while back in that price range. Keep watching the prices online and jump when it goes back on sale. The price at BB was less than 50$ more depending on your tax rate, than dell OTD.

I'd rather have the 50 inch, but you said you had $700; the 42 inch can be had for very close to that price. The 50S1 would cost several-hundred more.
Hey guys, the manager at best buy agreed to drop the price of the 50 inch X1 panny so it would fit into my price range... would you take it or still go for the S1?
Hey guys, the manager at best buy agreed to drop the price of the 50 inch X1 panny so it would fit into my price range... would you take it or still go for the S1?If your a videofile, and I dont think you are, go with the s1 but I think youll be very happy with the 50x1 as long as you do the d-nice break-in and his offsets that are in the 12g setting thread. There is a green push to that tv but once you do the offsets it goes away.
daniel'son 11-21-09, 11:08 AM .. you'll enjoy the larger X1 over the smaller S1.
though, i'm wondering when you mention a seating distance of 6.5ft; i would think in a bedroom environment, the 'majority' of viewing time would be fm 9-11ft. if the later, then the X1 wud be ideal. One gets to the whole size vs distance debate & whether 720p/1080p is best from such & such.

No they won't match, they are a joke. I have tried to get them to match on various items, they go online and verify, then tell me that the price is below their cost. Example, the pio 23TXH Elite receiver, they want full msrp $899, available in a ton of places for under 600, I bought it elsewhere for $477. The only things I have bought from them are a stand and a few $10 blurays.

I was honestly considering making a play for the 50s1 though. I'm just wondering if the extra few hundred $$$ will be worth the NEO panel (which I was told the x1 did not have) and the 1080p resolution. HELP guys!!!?!!?!
you've all helped me make great decisions in the past. I need you here!:)

The S1 is a very good set for the money, you have probably seen the reviews. Spend the money, don't get a piece of junk.
daniel'son 11-21-09, 12:25 PM ^^ .. agreed. if you can manage the extra ~200+ cost w/ the credit & 10-12% coupon, you should go for that. you can justify the splurge by spending less for the kids this X-mas by setting aside more 'quality time' with them in your bedroom. :)

Can't use the 10% off BB coupon on items that are on sale.
At least not at the two BB's near me.

I think he may be absolutely correct...

have them scan the coupon at BB to see if it will work, I've bought 2 tv's with the 12% coupon even though the TV was on sale.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-21-09, 01:29 PM It does seem to vary by store, based on what I've read on here....so definitely worth a try.
But at my two locals they will never accept a coupon on top of an item that is on sale.
And they mark everything on sale all the time at high prices.
Guys I am the proud new owner of a 50 inch s1. The manager took another $200 off the already on sale price of 1199. I got it brand new in box for $999. I'm very pleased woth bb once again. Excellent people here. All praise to God for favor with him.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-21-09, 03:46 PM May I ask your approach which led to the extra money off the sale price?
I seriously credit it to favor with God. You wouldn't believe some of the things that have happened lately.
But if i had to see it from a natural standpoint it would be like this.
Their system was showing that they had one open box s1, but the crazy thing was they couldn't find it. Ends up being one of the tvs that was up front by cash registers. Manager then says he would make me a deal on the open box x1. I told hip id think about it and come back tomorrow. I went in today and asked how low he could go. on the new I'm box s1 he said 999. I couldn't pass it up. You all would have killed me. The managers at that store are always awesome. Always!
man ya'll i'm so freakin happy. i can't even explain it. 58B650 in the front room and a 50S1 in the bed room. can't beat it. thanks for all the help and direction.

As an owner of both a Samsung B650 and a Panasonic S1, what are your thoughts on the two in comparison to one another?

I can't really call that one yet my friend. Give me a few days/weeks. The panny is not even broke in. I am intrigued by it, just because of how much good I've heard about it, but at the same time.... I'm not really familiar with it. I've got to get some good settings and all that stuff...
since this model has the neo PDP panel does that mean that there is little to no chance of image retention and should I still go through the break in period?

The Panasonics are pretty darn unsusceptible to image retention, but if you can leave the thing running the color slides when you're away from home, it couldn't hurt.
thanks again to everyone that helped with my decision making. I do like the TV... there are a few things that I have questions about... grainyness and the like. but i think it will get better once i get a good group of settings.
50 inch panasonic S1 plasma for the WIN!!!
