Attached I have three sketchs of possible layouts of my room. I wanted to get some insight to see what you guys may think is the best setup for HT application.

Just a few things about each sketch:

#1

+ closest to the way I have it now, and easiest to do with out moving much furniture
+ will not need two TV's
- cannot have my 7.1 setup because of lack of depth
- more of an open area

#2

+ can have 7.1 setup
+ setup is more of a confined space
- will need seperate TV for bed
- not a lot of width; side surrounds will only be 1-1/2 ft from ear

#3

+ can have 7.1 setup
+ more confined space
- will need seperate TV for bed

I know this is not a dedicated room, but any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated to help my build.

No way to have the permanent shelving somewhere else and use the bottom left portion of the room for the HT? I don't see the shelving shown in the initial sketch.

Regardless, layout 1 would be the least desirable IMO.

Unfortunately, there is no way to to move the shelving. It is only about 2-1/2 to 3 ft high, so I could mount the TV above that, but would make it difficult to use tower speaker because it comes out about 1-1/2 ft from the wall.

I know layout 1 is not my first choice, but setting up anywhere else would require a pretty long run of my HDMI cable, and I have heard that 1.3a should not be run more than 9 meters. To set up my TV in layout 2 or 3 would require a run of about forty feet. Is this true? I have a PS3 and and TrueHD receiver and do not want to lose getting the true digital sound.

It's a little tough to tell from the drawing, but it looks like you'd have the longest length dimension in setup #4. It's between #3 and #4 to me, and I'm leaning toward #4 because of that.

I like the last one the best.

I vote #3, I don't think you want the bed so close to the workshop door, where you will be in and out with tools, wood, etc.

And I would ditch the 7.1 idea and go with a 5.1. Many high-end theaters are just 5.1 and they sound amazing, proper design and equipment is more important than # of speakers.

Thanks a lot for the answers guys. The last drawing is actually the one I like the best, but I am having some doubts about it. You can see that I want to have my AV rack by the steps which would require a run of about 40 feet for the HDMI cable. I have been searching this site and seems that everyone thinks you should not have a run longer than about 25 feet. Could anyone maybe help clarify this for me, I will be running 1080P and TrueHD sound.
