A buddy of mine and myself are setting up a den with a simple setup. The question I got is, is putting my flat panel tv over an active fire place not a good idea? Will the heat from the fire place screw the tv up, i wanna give my friend good advice. Any help would be awesome thanks in advance.

I think the majority of us here would tend to tell you not to put the TV over the fireplace. Having said that it depends, if while using your fireplace you can feel quite a bit of heat in the area where the TV is I would say don't do it. Heat is the enemy of all things electronic. Some of the newer fireplaces do a better job of directing heat out into the room and not directly up towards the mantle. Second is that typically when you mount the TV over the fireplace it tends to be too high for proper or neck strain free viewing. I have a buddy of mine who has his mounted above his fireplace (unused about 99.5% of the time) and I find my neck hurting after extended viewing times such as a football game. YMMV and you will find as many opinions on this subject as there are members on this forum. 8-)
