I purchased a 1960's cape and will be converting the one bay
garage into a home theater. It is attached by a breezeway that
measures 10 x 20 which is perfect for the bar/lobby area. My question
is I would like to play vintage snack bar ads/commercials (like the ones you
used to see at Drive Ins) at the beginning of every showing.
Is anyone else doing this and how do you accomplish
it? What equipment is needed? where did you get the ads?

I have seen some people using a jukebox setup for their movies.
Is this just for standard def movies or can it be used for Blu Ray and
HD movies? What are some of the top software being used?

HTPC..I know what it is but I see guys setting up computers for
this. What is the main purpose of the computer set up?

I used the search function and it was not very helpful in providing
answers.

Search here for "MyPreMovie" or just go over to the website:

http://www.mypremovie.com/Default.aspx

That should get you started.

As for where to get the actual videos, I haven't a clue.

I don't know what you are trying to say here. Are you asking what a HTPC is good for?

They can be used for all kinds of things. I use mine for recording/DVR of TV shows, ripping and storing my DVDs/BluRays so they are available throughout the house at the push of a button, playback of ripped CDs, Netflix/Hulu playback, etc.

They can be a hassle, but so can integrating all the individual STBs into a system.

Might want to look around the Home Theater Computers (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=26) forum regarding the HTPC hardware and setup questions.

A handful of people over here in the Dedicated Theater forums use them for the purposes Suntan mentioned above, but you'll have a larger group of HTPC users to help out and give advice if you post questions over there.

I'd be curious if it's possible to do something like this in scripting within XBMC. I'd love to set it up so every time I play a video from the Movie library in XBMC, that it played a random:

- cartoon short
- news real
- candy/popcorn lobby song
- vintage trailer
- HD trailer

and then the feature... or possibly set it up so starting the movie with the "Play" button runs this script, while starting it with the "Enter" button goes strait to the feature.

I'm going to follow up over at the XBMC Community forum and see if it's possible or someone has already worked on it. If there's any positive movement, I'll report back here.

Do a search for "It's Intermission Time" for a whole series of Drive-in style intermission clips. Nfortunately the ONE it DOESN'T conatin is Let's All Go to the Lobby. And if you serach on that you should get TONS of hits.
