View Full Version : Does orange smurf tube have a fire rating?

All,

My equipment room is built into my garage, and as such, the conduit runs up in my 3rd car garage attic, through the fire barrier, up the second floor wall, and into my main attic. The inspector is saying I must have a 30 min fire barrier between the 3rd car garage attic, and the living area. Because the smurf tube penetrates this barrier, it must be fire rated.

I can't find the specs to see if it's fire rated. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks,

Russell

He should be ok with you fire caulking around the tube. Also not sure who the maker is but if you go to there website they should have literature for you to download like the below.

Ant,

That's what I was thinking, but I wanted to be sure. I can't seem to find any info on the Carlon website about the orange 2" tube I'm using. I'm not sure if it's riser-gard or plenum-gard, but either way there is no mention of fire rating on Carlon's website (at least nothing as clear as the link you posted).

How could it be fire rated? It's a two inch hole going through the base plate. I'd recommend fire caulking around it.

Thanks everyone for the info!

I presume it has a fire rating similar to how electrical conduit would have a fire rating. Even though it's a big hole, the material it's made out of will not instantly catch flame :)

I will make sure they use fire caulk around it and I'm sure that will be enough.

Thanks guys!
