Have just purchased a "new" 25 year old house and am attempting to route Cat 5e cable to appropriate areas. In one location, I have an existing PVC pipe that holds a 220 circuit that I could use and save the effort of drilling a new hole...

Question: Would there be interference or other issues on the network if I ran the Cat 5e cable along side a 220 circuit thru the PVC pipe?

Possibly. What is on the 220 line? Presumably something like a dryer or something which is probably among the worst noisiest things electrically?

If you have another reasonable path that doesn't run a long distance next to that line it would be preferred.

However also note that it is not legal to run high voltage and low voltage lines together in the same conduit or pathway (holes, etc).

Yhat being said, I have runs of HDMI and cat5 that run for about 6-8 feet right with both a 120 and 240 line together, and have had no problems at all in terms of performance.

But if the only added effort to you is drilling a new hole, then drill a new hole. If there is simply NO other way conceivable to route the wire at all, then I certainly won't encourage you to do something that violates the NEC, but...

Chris...

Thanks for the input...

The line supports an outside A/C unit and there is no other "easy" solution...the length would only be about 6-8 feet...

Running low voltage wiring in the same conduit as your AC is probably a violation of your local electrical code.

Yep. Less clear is what happens when you run fiber instead. I suspect it's also ixnayed, but it is far safer.
