rdvegas 12-28-11, 09:27 PM Antenna TV premiers on KSNV at the stroke of midnight New Year's Eve with a mini marathon of alternating episodes of Burns & Allen and Jack Benny. 3.3 will be the new digital home for Antenna TV in Las Vegas, displacing Universal Sports.
CubanMissile 12-29-11, 11:12 PM Wow, Cox decided to advertise PPV fights on every other line of the guide coupled with their seemingly lack of interest in adding any news HD channels may finally be the last straw for me.
rdvegas 12-30-11, 12:29 PM Las Vegas KHMP 18.3 looks like they're stunting. The sub-channel has been 24/7 infomercials since their beginnings, but today they are simulcasting the A-1 network from their 18.2 sub-channel. Perhaps there is something new in the pipeline for the first of the year.
Sat 12/31/11: Promos on KHMP 18.1 indicate local newscasts will return in January. Meanwhile A-1 continues on both 18.2 and 18.3 today, while TUFF forges ahead on 18.4.
BMillervegas 12-30-11, 11:46 PM Prism tv as promissed just added KGNG TV 47.3 Bounce tv now prism 23 and 47.4 Retro tv now prism 24 . I'm so glad I dropped cox more channels better quality less money.
rdvegas 01-01-12, 03:13 PM KHMP 18.2
American Guns and Glory Network joins KHMP as the 18.2 sub-channel. This moves A-1 to 18.3, bumping the 24.7 informercials. RTV continues on 18.1, and TUFF continues on 18.4.
It would appear that American Guns and Glory Network is heavy on early western flicks and some 'feel good' movies on patriotism.
1/3/2012: On Monday 1/2/12, KHMP 18.2 displayed a "tech problems" graphic most of the day. Late in the day Amewrica-One (A-1) returned to 18.2 simulcasting 18.3.
mark613 01-01-12, 07:17 PM Prism in Las Vegas now has the ability to pause and resume the DVR from any room. Hopefully VDSL2 will become a reality this year. That would increase the number of HD feeds, internet speed, and distance from the central office.
rdvegas 01-02-12, 01:52 PM KEEN 17.1
Over the weekend I noticed that KEEN 17.1 was airing a basketball match up. It's not often that KEEN airs programming geared to such a wide appeal audience. Perhaps the two teams weren't that important in the scheme of sports, but nonetheless, it was sports on an otherwise religious station. But there was a problem, IMO. The feed of the game was very blocky and the color rendition was untrue. Faded, washed out, and over all in poor condition. It would be difficult to think the average viewer would keep tuned to such an inferior net feed.
I was always impressed with the quality of the station a few years ago when they were still analog and running a mix of sitcoms, dramas, and religious programming.
I wish the engineer(s) at KEEN were on this forum to respond.
rdvegas 01-06-12, 04:28 PM KVPX 28.1 from Mako
The third Las Vegas O&O station from Mako is now broadcasting from the ridges south of town. KEGS and KNBX are the other two Mako O&O's in town. KVPX 28.1 is pumping out a digital stream with SBN, better known as SonLife. Yes, that's the same programming network currently aired by KEGS on 30.3 and KNBX 31.1. It's also a temporary resident on KEGS 30.1, filling in for the vacationing SOTH. Further, SBN can be seen on some devices at 24.2817, 24.2818, 30.2817, and 30.2818.
SOI, the network on KBLR 39.3 is not showing up this evening. In it's place is Exitos Tv.
My count is now 55 Las Vegas channels/subs. Still waiting for KBBB-26, KVTE-35, and possibly another one or two.
1/7/2012: Exitos TV seems to have exited from KBLR 39.3 this morning when SOI programming reappeared.
rdvegas 01-11-12, 09:20 AM KMCC Laughlin/Las Vegas
The NATPE exhibition for television execs gets underway January 23rd for a couple of days in Miami Beach. Many diginet affiliations are expected to be made and/or announced during that festive convention.
News has already leaked out of that gathering that The Cool, the music video network formerly on KGNG and KTNV, will be partnered with KMCC-DT 32 Laughlin/Las Vegas. KMCC has recently flipped the switch on their Dolan Springs main transmitter providing a stronger and more stable signal to the Vegas Valley than their low power on-channel repeater at Henderson was able to provide. Could The Cool be the first of several sub-channels for KMCC's channel 32?

No dot 2 or Exitos on KBLR yet, as of this morning. I suspect it will happen soon. Telemundo is on .1, with SOI on .3.
Noon edit 1/12/2012: KBLR added a "39.2 Exitos" psip for a little while before it disappeared.
rdvegas 01-12-12, 12:03 PM M/H in Las Vegas
Mobile/Handheld over-the-air television has been around Las Vegas for some time. Both KLAS-8 and KBLR-39 have been providing some content in M/H since last year. Now a few other valley stations have jumped into M/H distribution, even though few of us have yet to acquire a portable device to receive those signals. New M/H devices are being displayed at the CES convention currently in Las Vegas. New cell phones have M/H capabilities with pull out antennas.
A quick look around the dial this morning found these M/H broadcasters and what content they are currently providing:
KVVU M/H = 5.1 KVVU/Fox
KLAS M/H = 8.1 KLAS/CBS
KLVX M/H = 11.1 KLVX/PBS
KVMY M/H = 21.1 KVMY/MyTV; 21.2 KVCW/CW; 21.3 Food Network ; 21.4 The Country Network
KBLR M/H = 3.1 KSNV/NBC; 39.1 KBLR/Telemundo
My M/H tuning device is a Decontis adapter for my pc. I've heard from one viewer who states that Food Netork looks good on a 3.5 inch screen.
rdvegas 01-12-12, 03:02 PM K43FO renumbers their subs
Three Angeles broadcaster, K43FO Las Vegas, has changed their channel line up.
43.1 3ABN
43.3 3ABN-DD Dare Dream
43.4 3ABN-ES Latino
43.5 3ABN RD audio channel
43.6 3ABN-RL Latino audio channel
43.7 Radio-74 audio channel
Looks like 43.2 is for future use.

Initially, it took KMCC some time to get their main channel carried by Cox Communicatons. Then Cox played with channel numberng for them. I did see that channel 97 was listed on The Cool website for KMCC. Not sure if that was for Cox or the cable system in Laughlin.
Edit 1/14/2012: The Cool webiste lists Cox Cable channel 97.

That's a good question. If it isn't happening now, you can bet it will happen soon. Nothing like riding in a stretch Hummer watching the Food Network.
rdvegas 01-14-12, 12:01 PM 39.2 Exitos
Exitos on KBLR 39.2 is alive today. Telemundo on 39.1 and SOI on 39.2 continues.
That brings the current count of stations/sub-channels in Las Vegas to 57, with M/H adding 9 for a grand total of 66. This does not include repeater stations nor any Laughlin or Pahrump stations, but may include some M/H that were up only for the CES Convention that just ended. Of that total, 18 are Hispanic with one Hispanic M/H for a Hispanic grand total of 19.
rdvegas 01-15-12, 07:24 PM Standby for new channel numbering, yet again this week, on K43FO. Still gone is the Proclaim video channel, but new this week is Dare To Dream video sub and one additional audio sub-channel.
Demodave 01-16-12, 11:44 AM I finally saw an ad for Cox's whole-home DVR. I called Cox and they said that is definitely available now and working really, really well. As for pricing, he said that the new DVR would cost about the same as our current DVR; and there would be an $80 installation cost.
I am a techie and don't mind a few growing pains with my gadgets. But the wife and kids will not put up with the new whole-home DVR if the system still isn't ready for primetime. Also, other Cox markets allow for two master DVR's that can be networked together; essentially doubling the recording space and giving the ability to record four channels at once. The Cox rep said that feature is not available in Vegas as of right now.
So I am looking for opinions from other Las Vegas Cox users that have had the whole-home DVR installed. How is the new Trio interface now? I had heard that there were problems in the beginning, but customers from other Cox markets say that updates have improved things significantly. What is the speed of the interface on the client boxes in other rooms? Ultimately, would the kids and wife find it easy to navigate and use on a daily basis?

I would like to know whats all involved with the installation to justify that $80. do they have to go into the walls/outlets at all? or just hook up a couple of pieces of equipment? I suppose self install option is out of the question?

From what I understand, the coax needs to be checked and possibly re-ran due to the high-bandwidth needed. Any coax that is older or rotting will need to be replaced for the whole-home DVR to correctly function. They also need to install special filters on the line to ensure that your neighbor doesn't access your DVR and vice-versa.
rdvegas 01-17-12, 11:36 PM Now that the last visitors to CES 2012 are leaving town, so too are many of the local stations' M/H sub-channels. KVMY-21 dropped their 4 M/H subs with the conclusion of the CES. KBLR-39 dropped one M/H that was airing KSNV/NBC. KVVU-5 seems to have a place holder for their M/H, but doesn't stream currently.
Those M/H services remaining in Las Vegas are KLAS-8, KLVX-10, and KBLR-39.
The current count for Las Vegas stations is 56 channels/subs with 3 M/H services for a total of 59. Of those, 18 are Hispanic, one is Korean, with one Hispanic M/H.
dishrich 01-18-12, 12:16 AM Hi there, enjoyed my trip to Vegas & CES; couldn't beat the weather, either - wish I had stayed a couple more days! I'm actually thinking about getting a "winter place" out there now, while the real estate is depressed - so I am ready when I retire in a few years...
(sorry I couldn't post this while out there, but I could NOT get on the internet AT ALL in my hotel; it was TOTALLY down in all the rooms, & most people could NOT get a connection in the lobby   )
As usual, I brought in my suitcase my DTV Pal+, a simple, (back-of-set) bowtie antenna & a coax extension. Was staying on the 6th floor@Royal Resort on the south side of the building - I was SO glad I brought the Pal+, because not only does that hotel NOT have $hit to watch on their 25 channels, but it was on an (OLD!) 25" Mits TV, with a sucky remote!
So I set it up, & ran a scan. I was able to pull all of these (digital) stations in:
3, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 31, 33, 39, 41, 43, 47 & 50
Interestingly, the ONLY station that was VERY touchy to pull in, was 3. (I assume since it's on RF2, my setup was NOT exactly optimal for such a signal :D ) But other than that one, every other one stayed locked in consistently! One little complaint; many of the stations don't put ANY kind of "intelligent" labels on their PSIP info &/or ANY prog guide info. However, it's VERY easy to add your own PSIP tags on the DP+! ;)
I gotta say, you guys DO have quite a varied assortment of OTA programming, considering the size of your market. It was SO great to get things like Antenna TV (which we do NOT have back in my market), METV & others, I didn't connect the TV back to the hotel cable until I left! :D (note to self: throw a coax A-B switch in the suitcase next year, in case I get another antique TV w/out A/V inputs in my hotel  )
Now, a question I have for you Vegas guys...it's my understanding that Univision 15 is in HD. However, when I tried to adjust the (picture) formatting on my DP+ on 15, it stayed locked on CROP, & would NOT let me change it to FULL (letterbox) - what might be, or is the reason for this happening? I had no problems changing it on the other HD stations.
Just got Cox bill..next month will see more price increases: Cox starter tv going up $3.30. HD box rental up to 7.99 from 7.50. Internet preferred from 49.99 to 53.99. all due to "increases in operating and programming costs".

Saw that on my bill yesterday. In 1 year my bill has jumped $30. I'm done with Cox. Looking into DirecTV/Dish/Prism with CenturyLink. All three are less than Cox. Having to change my email address is a pain but saving $30-$40 a month will make up for it. Any suggestions/recommendations? Now I'm wondering if this will be a good time to look into internet TV. I have a Samsung TV with Ethernet but have never investigated online TV. Can you watch mainstream shows like those you see on discovery, BIO, Geo, etc? Don't watch citcom's much, mostly documentaries/educational. I really hate paying for 200+ channels when I use only 5 or 6 of them. TIA

The Royal is a so-so hotel. It's neat and clean, but probably still has hold-overs from the old days, such as your tv and remote situation.
I just checked KINC-15.1 Univision, and the program I was watching allowed me to change the display (zoom). Perhaps it was a specific program you saw that didn't allow those changes.
Yes, KSNV-3 works best with a long rod antenna as it is on rf 2.
Looks like your scan missed KVPX-28, or was performed before they began their digital operations. You also missed scanning-in KMCC-32 from their Dolan Springs, AZ location south of Vegas.
It's good you enjoyed your time in sunny Las Vegas where we have 70 plus days of 100 plus degree summer days. As one tv commentor states, where else can you find such great weather and ample free parking.
BMillervegas 01-18-12, 02:14 PM sisterkix you might want to try a antenna for a few months there are over 50 channels for free and the best quality HD is over the air free. I dropped cox and was pretty happy with OTA for awhile I missed a couple of cable channels so I have one tv with DVR on Prism plus high speed internet from Prism/century link Most of the time we watch OTA.Prism has more channels per $ than COX

I've been with DirecTv for over ten years now and couldn't be happier. Since I live in Pahrump, I can't get OTA hidef from Vegas, and when I last checked, Dish still didn't offer the big four nets in HD.
I don't think you need to drop Cox for internet if you switch to DirecTv, so you could still get their high speed service.
If you sign up with DirecTv, you can get a really good deal which is not yet available to existing customers. It is a 5 tuner dvr which can serve several clent receivers throughout your home. From what I have read, new customers can ask for this dvr (HR34) and Whole Home DVR for a really reasonable price.
Looks like your scan missed KVPX-28, or was performed before they began their digital operations. You also missed scanning-in KMCC-32 from their Dolan Springs, AZ location south of Vegas.
Just an FYI - the Dolan Springs transmitter is off again, as of Monday night. KMCC is coming off Black Mtn. using their experimental STA. Basically, it allows them to have a signal in Laughlin, satisfying their COL requirement through one STA, while broadcasting to Vegas, which is what they really wanted, using another STA. Meanwhile, the main transmitter sits silent. All they have to do is maintain status quo until the FCC offers them a buyout in exchange for giving up their channel. I wonder if they're getting "must carry" out of this too? Whatta racket!!
Trip in VA 01-18-12, 07:51 PM KINC may use AFD (Active Format Description) to control the display of receivers that understand AFD. I know I've spotted AFD metadata on some Univision stations here and there, so it would make sense.

If that metadata is contained in the transport stream, you have the most current reading on RabbitEars.
Trip in VA 01-19-12, 07:02 AM TSReader is very inconsistent about showing the presence of AFD. Some times it does, a lot of times it doesn't. I suspect it may have to do with newer versions handling it or something like that.
The tool that I use to look at Mobile DTV actually handles AFD consistently.

sisterkix 01-19-12, 11:25 AM Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll go with DirecTV for TV and centuryLink for phone and internet. I just don't like what Cox is doing. The Royal is a so-so hotel. It's neat and clean, but probably still has hold-overs from the old days, such as your tv and remote situation.
(sorry to get OT everyone, but...)
Knew that & agree w/you; definitely will NEVER be a 5-star joint...
Since I'm sure you know how ALL the strip hotels jack up their CES rates WAY higher than normal, I have NO intention of paying over $200+ a night, for basically a place to rest, shower & sleep. Since you really do not get a chance for "rest & relaxation"@CES, no point (to me) in spending $$$ for a fancy, relaxing, bed/bath/living room.
I normally stay at any of 3 hotels on Convention Center Dr; Roadway Inn & Clarion (used to be Greek Isles), in addition to the RR. They are all at least clean & tidy, & I can usually get something under $200/night. Since I do not gamble, I also like that none have casinos I have to traipse thru to get to my room. I actually prefer the Roadway, as it has the full Cox analog lineup, decent SDTV's & the free Wi-Fi actually worked the last time I was there. Oh, & it has a refrig & micro in the rooms...
But the main reason why I like that area, is because it's SO convenient for my whole stay. I can walk 1 block to/from CES at my leisure w/out having to wait on a CES hotel shuttle - & can walk to the strip just as easily. (well, maybe a little more walking...but you expect that no matter where you stay on the strip! :D )
I just checked KINC-15.1 Univision, and the program I was watching allowed me to change the display (zoom). Perhaps it was a specific program you saw that didn't allow those changes.
Nope, it was doing it on many (all) their progs. But I think here's the reason:

BINGO, I was thinking it was something to do w/AFD; had I looked over@the CEB forum, I would have found this:
Anyone with a converter being "denied" letterboxed output?
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1148095
Several posts there about the DP's being "locked" by the AFD data & unable to override it on 16:9 prog. While I like that the DP+ has a better tuner & best EPG, I think I'll try taking a different CEB next year; I've got a CM7000, Zenith DTT901, RCA DTA800, DS DTX9950, Tivax STB-T8 & Zinwell ZAT970 to choose from... :D
Yes, KSNV-3 works best with a long rod antenna as it is on rf 2.

Yea, was kind of surprised about KMCC-32; I'll keep that in mind next time & see if I can "tweek it" in
It's good you enjoyed your time in sunny Las Vegas where we have 70 plus days of 100 plus degree summer days. As one tv commentor states, where else can you find such great weather and ample free parking.
Yea, I'm thinking about a (real) vacation out there in the Spring or Fall & maybe do some "neighborhood hunting" for that winter home... :)
rdvegas 01-22-12, 03:57 PM KMCC is a no show the past several days at Summerlin Parkway and Buffalo area. My antenna knows there is a signal present, but it's not enough to lock for the tuner. I had a good signal during the brief time the Dolan Springs trans operated.
rdvegas 01-23-12, 07:05 PM I make it a frequent practice to DVR the overnight hours of Movies+ on KGNG 47.5. They always have a great selections of movies and other items during the night time hours. This morning I discovered a double episode run of one of my childhood favorites Buffalo Bill Jr. These appeared to be public domain episodes, as they contained some original Sunbeam Bread commercials. Thanks for the childhood flashback, and thanks to Larry and Lisa Hunt at KGNG for providing a great local station.
rdvegas 01-24-12, 10:36 PM KEGS 30.3
Missing tonight from the local Las Vegas airwaves is 30.3, the SBN SonLife sub-channel on KEGS rf 24. While that sub-channel is gone, for now, you can still get your SBN SonLife fix on either KVPX 28.1, KNBX 31.1, or KEGS 30.1 (where it fills in for the missing SOTH Songs Of The Heart).
Edit 1/25/2012: KEGS 30.3 is back tonight with resumed SBN SonLife network programming. Looks like KEGS owner Mako has also removed the 24.2817, 24.2818, 30.2817, and 30.2818 echoes that were seen by some viewers.
rdvegas 01-26-12, 06:20 PM KMCC 32.1 is back this afternoon at signal levels suggesting it is from Dolan Springs and not from the Henderson area on-channel repeater.
rdvegas 01-28-12, 04:26 PM KVCW-33 is having severe problems today. Two of my tv's have lost contact with the station, even though KVCW continues to be displayed by two APEX converter boxes attached to other tv's. Rescanning does not help, thusfar. A TSReader data scan shows that they have lost those strings of info that tell tv's what to do.
rdvegas 01-30-12, 09:59 AM K43FO, the Three Angels broadcaster on channel 43, is back up to 4 video channels and 3 audio channels. The Proclaim sub-channel had been missing for a brief while, but has been restored.
43.1 3ABN

43.4 3ABN Latino
43.5 3ABN Radio (audio)
43.6 3ABN Radio Latino (audio)
43.7 3ABN Radio 74 (audio)
KVCW continues to have insufficient info in their stream to provide many tv's the instructions to display their programming for their 3 channels. This was verified this morning with a TSReader capture. Now, even my two Apex converter boxes have lost contact with KVCW.
Edit: 10:20am Monday: KVCW seems to have restored everything back to proper order in their stream.
rdvegas 02-01-12, 09:21 AM K49ST-D
Five days in March
In what is one of the strangest FCC digital licensing actions, the governing body of all things tv and radio has approved a special temporary license to operate channel 49 in Las Vegas as an LPTV station. FCC action was dated 10 Jan 2012. Here's the special part. Fan Vision Entertainment, LLC, will operate DK02CG as K49ST-D ( a temporary call sign) with a special temporary authority from the far northeast area of the valley, near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It gets stranger. The station will operate from 8 March through 12 March, only. Fan Vision, of New York City, will power the transmitter with a mere .1kw. So if you're not near the Speedway, don't expect reception from this LPTV broadcaster.
I'm anxious to see info concerning their 5 days of operation. Will they include in their broadcast stream M/H for those spectators in the stands?
Gentlemen, start your DVR's. This will be one to record and save. The station will be gone in a blink of the eye, or at least with the wave of the winners flag at the NASCAR event.
K49ST-D

I don't believe that these are actual digital stations, but rather analog radio broadcasts by Live Sports Radio. The FCC doesn't issue analog permits in the TV bands anymore, hence the digital STA. If I can get close enough, there's a NASCAR event the week prior at Phoenix International Raceway and I'll see if I can get anything out of my digital TV, but I'm not counting on anything. LSR sells their own radios - I'm guessing the STAs are specifically for those.
There was a discussion about that on another radio/TV forum (http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=182394.0).

Yes, K44ST-D will operate with .1kw on channel 44 at Avondale (Phoenix) from 1 March through 5 March, before the K49ST-D ops at Las Vegas. Fan Vision Entertainment, LLC, is the operator. Filings with the FCC state "to operate a digital LPTV station at four upcoming NASCAR events." Digital low power is also cited in the filings. As for the Las Vegas license, the filings show "FanVision’s proposed antenna height of 14 meters will fall well below the height of the several story pressbox building, as well as the grandstands surrounding the race track. FanVision’s antenna will be completely shielded by the existing surrounding, taller buildings and structures, and will pose no risk of danger to aviation in the vicinity of the race track."

rdvegas 02-05-12, 10:53 PM For a couple of days the first of January KHMP 18.2 aired the American Guns & Glory network. It quickly disappeared with a technical problem discalimer filling the screen for several hours. Then KHMP returned the A-1 network to 18.2, being a simulcast of their new berth on 18.3 Flash forward to today, and it looks like KHMP has restored Guns to 18.2. Either that or they have found another network to occupy the sub-channel.
Monday 10am; By 6am, KHMP 18.2 had again reverted to the America One (A-1) Network for programming. A note from a KHMP source stated it is the intention for Guns and Glory to be back on 18.2 for good.

I finally saw an ad for Cox's whole-home DVR.
Ultimately, would the kids and wife find it easy to navigate and use on a daily basis?
anyone get the whole home dvr from Cox yet? if so, would like a review if possible. what extra hd channels do you get (I think there's an extra hd pack available?)

The extra channels in the new plus package are the Hub Hd, DIY HD, Outdoor HD, Cooking channel HD, and SWRV HD. While I do not have the new DVR, I do get the channels with my ceton infinitv and I must say that the picture quality is quite nice and there is a nice pop to the color, probably due to the channels being sent via mpeg4 and possibly at a higher bit rate. Other cox markets after the new DVR launches normally get many more HD movie channels added to the plus package so I hope we get those soon just because of the added quality.

How long have they been MPEG4? Didn't Vegas start off with MPEG2 for those channels.
Cox AZ and Cox NoVA are also MPEG4 and launched that way just last month.
Cox so far has not been able to Authorize the Plus Pak channels on the TiVo Premiere in AZ and NoVA. Ceton and SiliconDust have had success though.
Any TiVo Premieres receiving the Plus Pak channels in Vegas?

KTUD 25.3 is announcing the arrival of VA VAsian TV. This is a new sub-channel for KTUD, and a new network for Las Vegas.
Meanwhile KMCC 32.1 is not providing a strong enough signal in the Summerlin Parkway/Buffalo area for a lock. I'm guessing that what signal is there is from their 5kw Henderson repeater, and not from their Dolan Springs 1000kw tranny.
rdvegas 03-01-12, 10:30 AM Happy 3rd anniversary to KGNG digital 47. It has been three years now that King Kong has been gradually improving the little LPTV station on rf 48 virual 47. A few networks came and left, but the core of the station has been with RTV, HSN, and Movies+. Recently KGNG has gained access to subscribers on Prism cable, bringing their programming selection to new eyes. Owners Larry and Lisa Hunt have done a great job of providing Las Vegas area viewers with alternative programming different from the big full power stations that want to flood the airwaves with reality shows. Thank you for that choice.

rdvegas 03-05-12, 05:47 PM It's So Cool on 47.9
Color bars are showing up on 47.9 with a PSIP ident of "SoCool". Looks like the new home for music videos that KGNG had some months back under the "Cooler" label. What is unique for this KGNG sub-channel location is that it is not from the King Kong's KGNG transmitter, but rather is piggy-backed from KEEN digital 17.
KMCC digital 32 has been announced on the COOL TV website as an affiliate of that network, without a launch date listed. So KGNG via KEEN has beat KMCC to the punch for similar music videos while they await their try at Cool TV in Las Vegas. Cool TV started out on KGNG, then was moved to KTNV before leaving Las Vegas.
Edit Tuesday 7:15pm: Hold the fort. King Kong has changed their mind about ID-ing their new music video channel as 47.9. Instead they are using 17.8 (as for KEEN) for the present time, but are considering another numerical value.

rdvegas 03-07-12, 12:29 PM KMCC 32.1 has roared back with a strong signal after several days of being below the cliff. Is this newly energized signal from their Dolan Springs 1000kw trans? The Cool music video network web site no longer lists KMCC 32.2 as an affiliate.
K41IO 41.1 has now turned off their transmitter after a couple of days of airing a blank screen.
KHMP 18.1-4 is still below lock levels for me, although my antenna is oreinted towards Henderson, and not towards their Mt Potosi site. This station usually provides enough signal for my secondary tv to receive a lock on their programming including American Guns and Glory network RTV, A-1, and Tuff networks.
KEEN 17.1 is providing their Legacay network programming on 17.1 in MPEG format, rather than AC3, which seems to be problematic for some receivers. Meanwhile KEEN 17.8 displays colorbars in advance of the launch of SoCool music videos.
KGNG 47.6 My Family TV network is a no show today {Back up later in the day.}
Viewers near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway may find a signal on 49.1 starting Thursday 8 March. This will be the weekend only transmission of K49ST-D, a NASCAR channel, that will operate only briefly in Las Vegas. Catching it will be difficult, as the signal will only be 100 watts and from a low tower inside the race track. The station will be history once the Sunday race, or Monday rain-out if needed, is concluded.
About noonish today, 7 March, KEEN 17.8 began airing music videos. However, the audio track is currently missing. Also showing up is 17.6, ID"d as "KEEN TE" (KEEN-Test?). This appears to be an echo, or simulcast, of 17.1, at least for now. Audio on both 17.1 and 17.6 are OK.
The current Las Vegas total for ATSC channels & sub-channels totals 60, with one addtional analog channel. This does not include 17.6 or the 32.2 potential subs.

After some weeks of paint-by-number looking color on KEEN 17.1, the faulty equipment was recently rectified, and now color is back to normal.
A subtle network change for KEEN 17.1. Worship Net has replaced Legacy Network. This may have escaped my notice had it not been for a Saturday evening war movie. While flipping channels I discovered the movie and decided to give it a watch. It ended soon after with the credits rolling, followed by commercials. Then the network re-entered the same movie, somewhere in the middle, and filled out the remaining 45 minutes of the program slot.
More programming options will be coming soon to KEEN sub-channels, as network contracts are signed and equipment installed. Be sure and check out 17.8 for SoCool music videos.

Psykopup 03-27-12, 02:41 PM Hello there. I am a recent "cable-cutter" and am sooooo happy about it. I live in the NW area of Las Vegas and just said "good-riddens" to DirecTV.
I have an RCA ANT751 Outdoor HDTV Antenna right on the DirecTV mast on the side of my home. I have 3 TVs connected and am using the Dynex 4-Way Coaxial Cable Distribution Amplifier. All TVs are getting excellent reception... except for 1 channel.
PBS channel 10 comes in excellent on my master bedroom TV, but not at all on the other 2. My biggest concern is getting it in on the living room TV that has the Tivo connected to it. I have twin toddlers and since losing NickJR., PBS seems to be the best channel for kids shows.
I have no idea why I can't get channel 10 in on all TVs. I haven't tried switching the COAX cables that are plugged into the dist. amp., but I'm not sure if that will make a difference. Ideally, I'd like to get channel 10 on all the TVs.
Is the problem the Dynex? Is there a better, more powerful distribution amp that I should be using?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. There's not very many people who know about this technology.
Thank you.

My answer to your question is it depends on your TV. Some TVs have a cable card slot on them, if your tv does have one then you could just rent a cable card from cox and then you would get most of the other HD channels but no on demand or pay per view which probably does not matter because you do not have a cable box now. However cable card never really caught on as a standard so your TV may or may not have one.

Trip in VA 04-15-12, 11:50 AM I'm in town for NAB, and this morning I am not seeing any signal from any of the Mako stations, plus K41IO-D has PMT issues, plus I can't manage to get a lock on 19 or 23.
Managed everything else from the hotel room here. EDIT: A north-facing hotel room, I've determined.
- Trip
rdvegas 04-15-12, 01:01 PM At 10:45 am, the MAKO cluster of stations, KVPX-28, KEGS-30, and KNBX-31 are all silent. No transmitter power. K41IO continues to have transmitter power but no programming. No reception issues in the NW Valley for KHDF-19 or KLVD-23. KHMP-18 is below the reception cliff for me the past several weeks, and KLVX-10 pixelates with a weaker reception strength than I'd prefer.
At 1:35 pm, LATV on KINC 15.2 is sitting in the black.
rdvegas 04-20-12, 09:33 AM Expect two new sub-channels to appear on your Las Vegas screens this coming Monday.
Mako continues to tweak their KVPX-28, KEGS-30, and KNBX-31 programming. The color bars are the latest addition, or is it the DISH Network graphic. Great viewing options, both.
Edit 4pm 4/20/2012: In addition to the two new sub-channels mentioned above, Mako's KNBX today has put the psip in three new subs. KNBX 31.2, 31.3, and 31.4 are there. Only 31.4 has programming, without sound, and appears to be a public domain program demo loop. Could this be HOT (History Of Television), a very small diginet dedicated to public domain programming also carried on another out of market Mako station?
The current count of Las Vegas Valley main and sub-channels now stands at 67.
The color bars are the latest addition, or is it the DISH Network graphic.
You mean this DISH Network graphic (https://picasaweb.google.com/dhett21/TV#5732264360303464098)?
We have it on a Mako station in Phoenix, but only on two of the six subchannels that are supposed to have AlmaVision programming, so I'm thinking that the problem is AlmaVision. That should be KEGS-LD 24.2 in Vegas, I believe.
rdvegas 04-21-12, 10:21 AM You mean this DISH Network graphic (https://picasaweb.google.com/dhett21/TV#5732264360303464098)?
No. We did have that about 10 days ago, however the current DISH graphic is a freeze frame of satellite acquisition. For three days it has stated the process shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
rdvegas 04-21-12, 12:45 PM KEEN 17.7
Lighting up today is KEEN's 17.7 sub-channel. This is one of two expected to launch on KEEN Monday. Can't say what the 17.7 will be, except I have an urge for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
If anyone, other than myself, is counting, this is the 68th main/sub-channel in Vegas. The other KEEN sub-channel expected to launch will be the 69th.

OTA Junkie 04-22-12, 09:44 PM Hello there.
Thank you.
You might try what you were thinkng about and putting your LR tv on the good spigot that feeds the bedroom. Actually trade connections and see if your good TV goes bad and the LR set starts working. You could also try putting a 3 way splitter in place of the distribution amp (DA). You may not need the amp. Another test would be to barrel the antenna input feeding the DA directly to one of the TVs that has issues with CH10. Could be your DA. Nothing you try here will break anything.

Also as you have a 4 way DA you could try terminating the empty spigot with a 75ohm Dummy plug, or an additional TV.

AMG on KEEN 17.6 continues to suffer with audio issues. I hear it may originate with the network, but a solution is in the works.
KNBX 31.4 resumed it's demo loop this morning of 26 Men, without a soundtrack. Over the weekend the program was freeze framed on a PSA.

Bryan_CoxPHX 04-25-12, 02:05 AM What is the best HD box with a HDMI output? With and without a dvr
I assume you are talking about a Cox provided box.
Probably the SA 4240HDC (STB), it's old but reliable, as is the SA 8240HDC (DVR) with this DVR you must get a knowledgeable Tech to update the firmware to use an Ext eSATA HDD for extra recording capacity.
The index of Cox STBs lists the newer Cisco 4642HDC (STB), but I have not seen any reviews, I have read that Cox is having some issues with the newer Cisco boxes running Rovi Passport software, especially the DVR, the Cisco 8642HDC running Rovi Passport Echo. AFAIK the Cisco 8642HDC running Rovi cannot use an Ext eSATA HDD for extra recording capacity. Even though this DVR has a 500GB HDD it is formatted to only 160GB - 20hrs of HD recording.

My personal opinion is that the TiVo Premiere is the best overall solution, I purchased a couple on sale last August just to test one out and it has been flawless and has a great user interface.
Demodave 04-25-12, 02:00 PM Kudos to Cox for trying to appease the baseball fans in Las Vegas. As you already know, Cox is carrying all of the Padres games on Ch 96/1096 using the FS San Diego feed. I just noticed earlier this week, that Cox is also showing a couple Diamondback games each week on the same channels using the the FS Arizona feed. NICE!
Since MLB won't change their archaic blackout rules that have Vegas listed as the "home" market for 6 different teams, Cox's efforts to show more baseball (and all in HD!) is very appreciated. Thanks Cox!! :D
rdvegas 04-25-12, 03:06 PM KNBX Hot
Audio is supposed to be up and running with the HOT network public domain service on KNBX sometime today (Wednesday). Not sure if it will transition to 31.3 at that time, or remain on 31.4 with the 31.3 ID.
What could KNBX owner Mako have in store for 31.1, 31.2, and 31.4? And what about their KVPX 28.1 and KEGS 30.1? One possibility is the GBC World News Network carried on one of their stations in the Philadelphia area.

Depends on how you look at it and who you subscribe to. With DirecTV, you get a ton of baseball without having to sub to Extra Innings. You can add in the DBacks with a sub to the sports pack. This gives you SF, OAK, LA, LAA, SD and AZ all in HD.

I'm a DTV subscriber that has not used the sports packaging. How would I do that? As a former Orange Countian, I'm a Dodgers & Angels fan.

Unrelated to the above, Enlace is back on K41IO 41.1 after a several week hiatus with technical problems.
HOT (History Of Television) on KNBX is now being ID'd as being on 31.4, rather than the previously ID'd 31.3 but aired on 31.4. The ID refers to www.channel31four.com, which concerns a Dallas RTV network affiliate, and a sister Mako station.
LATV on KINC 15.2 was in the black for part of the morning today.
Almavision on KEGS 30.2 is still airing the DISH network signal acquisition graphic (about 5 minutes to completion), as they have now for over a week.

I've looked at DirecTV, but it would end up costing quite a bit more each month because we have 7 TV's that would need 7 boxes, each with a $5 monthly charge after the first two or three. With Cox, we only have two TV's with boxes and the rest have basic cable directly connected. Plus we get the bundle price on the internet too.

We dealt with that by giving back two boxes on upstairs TVs. We have a DVR/receiver on the main downstairs TV, and a "roving' box that we can use on any of the upstairs TVs. I set up cheapo rabbit ears and converter boxes on all 3 upstairs TVs. Get all the networks, plus sub channels. As little as we watch upstairs, OTA is enough. As a bonus, I've gotten a couple of dozen good older movies on OTA sub channels.
We bundle through Century Link. Phone, DSL, and DirectTV. Having said all that, we're not all that thrilled with Direct TV, mostly due to their DVR. But you are not required to get more than the one box. If OTA is sufficient in most rooms, you could save some bucks.

It's actually $6 for EVERY box after the first, sorry...
crabboy 04-27-12, 02:01 AM It's actually $6 for EVERY box after the first, sorry...
For us, it was $6 a box after the dvr. So, we returned two (kept the third as a "floater") and saved $12 a month. Not a lot, but something.

KGNG's 47.2 is experiencing video problems this Saturday am. AViva programming is not currently being seen. Just up the dial on 47.7, KGNG's TVC+ Latino service is sitting in black.
Sabadazo En Pijamas, KELV 27.1 (Telefutura), is a fun Saturday morning program airing from 10 am to 2 pm. If Spanish isn't your language, just mute the sound and watch the pretty pictures and hijinx ensue.

Perhaps it was too good to last, but HOT (History Of Television) on KNBX 31.4 locked up on a station ID at 9 am Saturday morning, and there it sat until sometime late Sunday/early Monday morning. The station has again reverted to the loop of 26 Men.
rdvegas 05-08-12, 09:26 AM Two sub-channels are experiencing blockiness Tuesday morning. Three Angeles Proclaim on K43FO 43.2 is displaying a stream at less than a perfect viewing situation. It appears to be the incoming signal to the station, and not the fault of K43FO. The same situation seems to be affecting TVC+ Latino on KGNG 47.7.
Meanwhile, KNBX 31.4 is stalled out once again on the graphic of a PSA at the end of the 26 Men demo loop.
rdvegas 05-10-12, 09:09 AM Thursday morning breaking news
Two additional sub-channels seem to be operation this morning. KHDF 19.2 has changed from a "for lease" graphic to an informercial channel. Audio was missing when I checked at 7 am. KNBX 31.2 had been a blank psip for several weeks, but is now a simulcast of KEEN 17.1. That may transition to something else (possibly the Clark County Government channel). There are still two additional sub-channels rumored to be in the works for a possible May-June launch.

King Kong's KGNG has applied with the FCC to move their rf 48/ display 47 service to rf channel 26. This would place KGNG in the core of the broadcast spectrum after any of the sell off to the telcomms. Boulder City's KBBB had a CP to move to channel 26, but it looks like that application has been dismissed by the FCC.
KBBB was a notable phantom since gaining a license for K25HU in Kingman AZ, then "moving" to ch 14 in Dolan Springs AZ (claiming to be on the KMCC antenna, which had no external power), then to ch 14 Boulder City, claiming to lease space on a tower there and finally a CP to "move" to ch 26 Las Vegas. Last fall, someone reported the station to the FCC, who sent inquiry to the licensee. The licensee affirmed (under penalty of law) that the station was constructed and broadcasting, sent a copy of the antenna receipt as proof (the receipt was for a VHF antenna but the FCC didn't catch that), and claimed to go silent on 4/30/2011. But because the licensee failed to file a notice of resumption of operations by 4/30/2012, the license was canceled.
KBBB-LD response: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=28988
KGNG wasted no time filing to move to ch 26, even stating in its application that the channel was open because the CP for KBBB had been dismissed.
