I think some of the songs were Irish (or sounded Irish influenced) but sung in Spanish, which was a kind of neat mix. I really hadn't heard anything like that before. Just had a little brandy and listened to them in the house with the door open.

It is, the entrance is free, but then again it is an expensive free.

you buy tickets (1$ each) and then you use the tickets to buy beer (and some other alcoholic beverages) at the booths

the booths are run by different micro breweries and international breweries and stuff. There is also some food booths. All drinks work with tickets (1-5), food works either in cash or tickets depending on the vendors choice.

They also have activities, but I never tried any of them.

It is just fun going there talking with friends (like at any bar) but spending more time discussing what you are drinking or what you will drink and tasting beers you would normally not try

The location is also nice, around 1/2 the area is indoors and the other 1/2 is outdoors.

The best part is that it indicates the start of the summer partying (there tends to be one event after an other, grand prix, two national holydays -June 24 for Quebec July 1 for Canada, Jazz festival, Just for laughs festival, movie festival....)

I decided to connect my laptop to my projector tonight and cruise. Just had a party for the mother in law and I am pooped. Enjoying a nice cold Miller Lite on tap......The new grill kicks ass....

Miller Lite tonight. I am in an exceptionally great mood today. It will be my second Fathers Day on Sunday...and I am quite the proud papa.

it does, it also makes the money go faster ( take out wallet buy 20$ worth of tickets go try some stuff, notice tickets are gone so without thinking go back and buy some more, and you can't leave with tickets they are worthless).

But they are there more for administrative purposes. You buy the tickets for 1$ the booth exchanges it for beer, then at the end of the day (or festival, I don't know which) the stalls give the tickets back to the festival and the festival gives them something like .50$ back

But from a consumer perspective, the nice thing is that you can taste beers that you most likely would not taste any otyher way. Some are international and not widely available here, others are small brewpubs that you would not be able to get other then on location. It also makes it easier for expensive beers because they are beer samplers and not pints or anything like that, so cheaper then a full beer and if you don't like it is not that much to drink. My usual thing is to try one or two expensive ones (5$) and drink mostly the reasonable priced ones (2-3) and stay away from those that tend to be widely available (Miller, Coors, Molson, Labatt....).

Actually I like the sampling thing for the reason you mentioned (since I've I gotten stuck with a stuff like a whole pint glass of some nasty wheat grass beer no one would take).

The best beer I ever had was from one of those "Beers of the World" packs. It was the '80's, I can't remember the name, but it was made in (I think) Yugoslavia so it's probably not around anymore. I never found it again (since they rotate out the beers).

PS just because the country does not exist anymore does not mean the brewery/beer does not.

True. I wish I'd remembered the name of the beer (or saved the bottle). Instead of a paper label the name and brewery was embossed into the glass. It was pretty neat.

Comparing Sweetwater India Pale Ale with Red Brick's Peachtree Pale Ale.

Both good - the IPA a little lighter with hints of sweetness, the Red Brick more substantial with nice bitter finish.

Hmmm...dont recall why I said to PM me for the recipe...lets just say it was a long day of partying...Anyway the recipe for the mojito is...

In this order, add the following ingredients to a shaker
1 T of raw cane sugar
1/2 lime (quartered)
4-5 Large Mint leaves

Muddle the above to bring out the flavor of the lime and mint and to start dissolving the sugar

Add 2 oz Light Rum
Add 3 oz of Club Soda

Stir

Pour over ice in tall glass

To fancy it up: Add Lime and sprig of mint (I usually do this for the first one)

Enjoy

Sounds good. I am a rum fan.

However, I DID get to meet Tarzan (Josh Strickland) and Frankie Valli (John Lloyd Young) as well as see Jersey Boys and Tarzan. I also saw Jacques Brel is Alive... and History Boys. A really big week!

About the hotel being close to your house...I was concerned about the cops pulling me over for nothing in my Escalade EXT with IL plates. I have heard they like us folk from IL....

My EXT has compartments on each side of the bed designed as coolers. You just put your beer in and dump ice on top of it. There are drains at the bottom. Someone at Cadillac is a boozer....back in the day, Scott and I used to drive around with a 1/4 barrel tapped in the back of my Deville. Good times.... How about it Scott??? Home brew tonight from Mr. Beer. My daughter and I were also making another batch. Whispering Wheat Weizenbier is the mix. Good stuff!!! Scott has a kit. Lets see, 2 PB10s, SVS speakers and a home brew kit. Scott, maybe you should have a party. Art knows a good bartender. :-)

Hmmm...dont recall why I said to PM me for the recipe...lets just say it was a long day of partying...Anyway the recipe for the mojito is...

In this order, add the following ingredients to a shaker
1 T of raw cane sugar
1/2 lime (quartered)
4-5 Large Mint leaves

Muddle the above to bring out the flavor of the lime and mint and to start dissolving the sugar

Add 2 oz Light Rum
Add 3 oz of Club Soda

Stir

Pour over ice in tall glass

To fancy it up: Add Lime and sprig of mint (I usually do this for the first one)

Enjoy

So I am on my flight to Atlanta Tuesday and decide to have a few cocktails on the way. Its about noon and our flight was delayed about 2 hours. We were already in the plane.

So to take off the edge, I had a couple rum and diet Cokes. The flight attendants were pretty cool and did not charge me for any drinks. So they notice I am drinking rum and say they made a Mojito by accident and asked if I wanted it. (I instantly think of this thread and Kezug) I said sure. It was great. I would have to say it is a light margarita without the sour. It is my new favorite drink. I highly recommend it. ;) ;) ;) Thanks Kezug!!!

Yes, the Hyatt at the convention center had numerous openings as of yesterday. A month ago they told me they were booked. We are planning on attending the AVS party so if dinner would be prior to that, we are interested.

Kipp, that HDDVD seems to only have about 1- 2 minutes of video on it. It says one chapter and it plays it over and over (all in the kitchen). Did I miss something ?

Yep, I'm following up my own post again, but a couple of days ago I just came across an old "The Perfect Vision" T-shirt I've had since about the time they launched, I think. It's never fit right (it was free, they just sent me one if I remember right because I was the account manager for the mag when I worked at Tower corporate), but it's got the really old flying eyeball logo. Finally made it back from CEDIA after being diverted to Milwaukee. I was stuck on the plane with Scott for 5 hours....Awesome trip. Went to the SVS party in Colorado Springs and the demos of their subs and new speakers were incredible. Very good people over at SVS. By the way, they served up some great cocktails. Not really at least not recently. Mark Seaton should be coming along soon with an Infra Sub that will allow me serious bass extension down to 8Hz or so as an adjunct to mine. While here did you feel as though I needed better bass ?

I've been drinking my coffee... and reading about RPTVs. Mits or Sammy.... 56732/831 or 5687/88.... or just say screwit and get a cheaper 720p RPTV or even a 50" plasma.

So far the Mits is winning. It will be a few hundred more, but I like the fact it just came out and no one has really had the time to post anything negative ;)

How does this work ?

You have another HT meet. Invite someone from SVS to do the upgrade, and a/b test it as each driver pair is installed.

I heard Scott will hanging out at the bar again.... ;)

They are treating me well. I still can't get over the difference. Makes my cocktails that much more enjoyable. ;) ;) ;) Unfortunately, I do not go to CES, I really enjoy CEDIA because it is not as crowded and the people at CEDIA are industry. Coffee, double cream with four Splendas this morning. :p :p :p
