Hey Art,
Actually yes but via the cold steel method. As you can see above, I have been busy purchasing weaponry this year. Since the election, my arsenal has doubled and even tripled in value. So needless to say, I turned my paper money in for steel and now its worth its weight in gold. Maybe I am an alchemist???:p:p:p

Anyway, its -4 outside today, I am settling in to watch Wally-E with the family and enjoy a few cocktails. I am off of work until 1/5. Good times.

Welcome coldmachine!

I think the general rules are:

You don't need to be drinking a beverage with alcohol, but if you are this is probably the thread to do it (to stay topical). :)

No profanity (it still follows the AVS rules).

If you have a good drink/entertainment combo we'd like to hear it.

Don't get the thread killed, it's a long running one. :D

Current drink: vodka tonic, watching Simpsons on DVD later.

Enjoy!

Good Evening Ladies & Gents...and Happy New Year!!!!:D
I stumbled on this thread awhile back but never posted here. Seems like such a great idea, and speaking for myself there have been many times I've cruised AVS while imbibing my favorite spirits.

Tonight looks to be interesting. Right now, as an LSU Alum, I'm at home watching the "Chick-Fil-A Bowl between LSU vs GA Tech from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The game just started & GT looks pretty good. Score: LSU 7, GT 3. Red Stripe Beer is kicking off this evening.

After the game, I plan to go out to a few clubs. Once a year here in Cocoa Beach, the clubs & bars are allowed to stay open until 4:00am. Being the Night Owl I am, this suits me just fine. Looks like I'll be closin'em down tonight! Wahooo...LSU just scored again!
Most likely, I'll be switching horses later w/my year round favorite Florida drink...Vodka Tonic, twist of lime. I don't normally do "shots" but you can bet your sweet petunias a few toasts will come my way. Wishing everybody a fun time tonight, and again, Happy New Year 2009!!!!!

WOW, what a NFL WILDCARD SUNDAY! For the first time I can friggin remember, my Miami Dolphins played in post season. It's been a long hard draught! Game today began at 1:00pm, and I went to our local sports bar to watch it on the big screen. Had Great time, but nonetheless we lost to the Ravens...After many beers & vodka tonics I made it home via taxi, and now after a nap I'm up. Made a vodka tonic. Fired up my old Nakamichi deck and put in some really old cassettes. Bob Dylan's album "Desire" is sounding pretty good. Who the heck said that cassettes don't last? According to the sticker on the back, I bought this cassette at Stan's Record Shop on 1/27/76...is 30 years considered a "long time"? The same time, I bought about $300-$400 worth of cassettes, and think I was also replacing my old 8-track collection at the time because I have many cassettes in this old case w/the same sticker & date. Also, the same year(I think?) I went to the Astrodome in Houston to see ole' Bob during his "Hurricane Carter Review" benefit concert...that's a whole different story to reflect upon....Cheers for now...

Settling down for a nightcap, and listening to Santana's "Borboletta" album. We all watched the movie "Hancock" on DVD. Good for a few chuckles. I'd rate the flick about 2.5 out of 5 stars. A few nights ago, I watched a movie I'd recommend titled "Into The Wild" directed by Sean Penn. Based on a true story.

Make that two of us!!! One night cap lead to another...well, you know the story. Lots of booze & music. I'm a big music lover so if I start playing albums I haven't heard in awhile it leads to more & more music...and of course I'm making drinks as I listen..you get the picture...Led Zepplelin's "Houses Of The Holy" on right now...my Grado SR325 Headphones sound incredible. Met Jimmy Page personally in 2000, and reminded him of that concert I saw him perform at LSU in Baton Rouge in 1975. He said his back was not good after a mosh pit incident in a recent concert awhille back. Later I learned he moved his gal & boy from New Orleans to Destin Beach...this was 2 years before Katrina...good move Jimmy. Cheers.

Homemade beer in the HT tonight!!!

Hope the brew & suds party went well. Having my ol' reliable screwdrivers tonight. A British movie night. Watched two movies this evening. One was the documentary by Martin Scorsese titled "Shine A Light", which chronicled the Rolling Stones. Great show, that mainly took place at the Beacon Theater in NYC. First, you have to get over the actual appearance of the aging Stones band. After you've conquered that feat, then you can enjoy the superb Musician-ship that can not be matched to this day. These guys are the pros, and are what all other rock bands aspire to achieve or even get close. Just turn on the radio today and you'll soon realize that ain't gonna happen.

Next up was the 2008 movie "In Bruges". This is a Brit flick, but a good one as well. Stars Colin Farell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. This about two Brit mob hit men that screw up a job and are exhiled to Bruges (in Belgium) so things can cool off back home.

Tuning in to a little Pink Floyd as I type. Next up is more Bob Dylan...Lately, I can't get enough of the guy. On the TV...Military Channel, "Wings Of The Luffwaffe".

Yo Kipp, Happy Frack'in Memorial Weekend!!!! Vodka is definitely the way to go. I'd though I'd pass this along for any of you guys & gals living in Florida, there's a great deal on vodka at your local "ABC". Tenure brand Polish vodka in 1.75L glass bottle for $24.00, but dig this...there's a $20 rebate coupon you mail in w/receipt. That's a whoppin $4 bucks for a big bottle of hooch! Talk about a recession buster!:D

Hoping to see lots of war flicks & documentaries on the HT over the weekend. Battle 360 on the History Channel had a great show on earlier today w/the US Navy vs the Japanese Navy...guess who won that skirmish??! My 83 year-old Dad was at that particular naval battle in WWII aboard an escort aircraft carrier working the flight deck. Cheers & a big salute everyone, and again, Happy Memorial Weekend!

I picked up a bottle of The Singleton of Glendullan 12 year Single Malt Scotch. This is the first time I tried it and I must say it is pretty tasty stuff. I usually prefer Sherry Cask aged single malt scotch but this one is aged in both sherry and oak bourbon casks. Gives it a unique flavor.

Hi Randy. That is exactly why I keep a keg fridge in my garage. When I am running low, I plug it in, pick up a keg and pre-cool it there until I am ready to replace a barrel. My liquor store does the same as yours. It usually takes 24 hours for the keg to get down to temperature. I run at 33 degrees.

Yepper....the garage frid is for the house overflow for food....Christ, it's only two of us now! ANYwho, I am going to get another kegerator and store one there.

Kipp Jones

That was the caveat of doing the kegerator...you run out and you need another keg. I did two things.... Have a spare case of cans in the fridge and have a back up keg in the garage fridge.

I had this drink at Red Robbin's, of all places. It's absolutely delicious! It's called "Sand in Your Shorts."

1/2 oz Vodka

3 oz Cranberry Juice
3 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Sweet and Sour Mix

Old man winter is here, and he's bringing the bitter coldness with him.http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/images/smiles/coldsmilie.gif

I thought it's perfect weather for a White Russian. "You make a mean Caucasian, Jackie."

I'm usually a Jack&Coke kinda guy in the Winter, Martini's in the Summer
But Santa has one of these under the tree for me this year ...

It has two settings for Shaken or Stirred.

Seems like a frivolous thing to have, but at $29, My G/F said it was only $4 more than a new stainless steel shaker alone,
which I needed anyway...plus she knows I'm a sucker for electric gadgets :D

On the way home today I'm stocking up at the Liquor store...
Bombay Sapphire Gin, Grey Goose Vodka, Martini & Rossi Extra Dry Vermouth, Lemons, Olives (and some Cranberry juice for the G/F)

My version of the Vesper Martini (http://www.artofdrink.com/2006/11/vesper-martini.php):
3oz. Vodka, 2oz. Gin, 1oz. Vermouth, shaken with ice , poured into a chilled 10oz martini glass with a lemon twist

I'm off work from Tomorrow until January.
Time to break out my James Bond Blurays ;)

Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Thunderball

Casino Royale
Quantum of Solace

(Sean Connery and Daniel Craig..the only two worthy of the 007 role IMHO)

Bad News first,
The electric shaker is a Joke
Seriously, unless you're old and crippled with arthritis,
just take the shaker out and do it like a "real" bartender.

The Good news?
My first Martini (since August), turned out Fantastic!
...after I ripped the shaker out of that electronic POS and shook it myself :p

10 oz of heaven on earth ( 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon) Feels like Summer again!
http://members.shaw.ca/piomaniac3/12190011.jpg

Cranberry "Crantini" for the G/F because she has a sweet tooth, Cherry flavored Craisins soaked in Vodka for a garnish :D
http://members.shaw.ca/piomaniac3/12190015.jpg

Breakfast of Champions!
just a couple hours before the Martini mixer crawled out from under the Christmas tree (Hey! I'm on Holidays!)
http://members.shaw.ca/piomaniac3/12190018.jpg

For now, the Shaker has a home on the counter top,
not because it works so well, but it matches the decor, fills an empty space and keeps the G/F happy.
...since she bought it for me.

I think this is the first time I posted a Kitchen pic on AVS :o

http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss112/tbot155/IMG00035-20100124-2223.jpg

For those of you who can't read Japanese, they are molds for making 2" diameter ice balls. Great for rocks glasses. I got them from a friend, but they sell them at the MOMA online store.

My first attempt is in the freezer right now. I'll report back my results (and a good buzz) later this week. ;)
